when you need someone for a savior / rudie can't fail
Comment:
this is for a couple of friends of mine. songs that remind me of their son (or help me with dealing with everything), who was killed two years ago.most of them are generic "oh i like to listen to this when i'm sad and thinking about richie", so i'll only talk about the ones with specific meanings.
1. this song just makes me happy. i thought maybe songs like that should go on here too, to break the tension.
8. the first time i heard this song, i immediately thought about el torreon and all the rest of kansas city that just isn't the same anymore.
9. this is richie's band. el torreon is located at 31st and gillham.
10. the very first show i went to was a clash tribute show after joe strummer died. my favorite clash song then was "rudie can't fail" and i was getting ansty because no one played it. then the last band (tanka ray) played and a friend said to me, "oh, look. richie's getting on stage, he plays trumpet, they'll play it"
11. this song was played at a memorial.
side two:
1. this song is uncanny and always makes me tear up a bit. richie died february 6, 2004, and the kansas city punk scene died, too.
2. more uprights.
3. the hospital (another local band) covered this at rock for rudeboy, a benefit show for the scholarship set up in richie's name.
8. richie died on a friday. i didn't want to go to school the next monday, and i couldn't really sleep that sunday night. i stayed up until four or so, and listened to "ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars" twice.
11. this is my favorite song ever.
i'm kind of nervous to give it to them, i hope they like it.

Feedback:
This is an impressive mix. I hope they like it too. But even if it is too hard for them to listen to, they'll like that you made it for him/them.
I like your comments. Mixers should be obligated to do that sometimes, to give us more insights into their madness. I would enjoy it, anyway. I also dig how, with so many justly revered and cathartic songs loaded into this mix, it makes the mix seem like a profound ode to music itself, or something. It's awesome, is what I'm saying

A really nice mix this. Heartfelt comments also. I think your friends will love it. On a different note, i never knew David Byrne covered 'The Man Who Loved Beer'..go figure.
Rudie won't fail...go for it.
Very heartfelt. Stand By Me is more than worthy of being someone's favourite song.
What a marvellous thing to do."and i couldn't really sleep that sunday night. i stayed up until four or so, and listened to "ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars" twice." For this statement alone I commend you. Don't be nervous, how could they not like it?
