Comment:
Painting by my g-fr Annie.Painting: Gerhard Jenne, Proprietor Of Konditor & Cook
Painter: Ann Gardner 1994
26" x 30" oil on canvas
Side 1
2) For his brief fling with the ailing Chess, Sol comes on like Barry White and it works - just! It won't trouble White fans to hear one of Soul's finest kneeling at the
Sperm whale's altar but Burke fans are advised to beat a hasty retreat back to Stax.
5) Now works as a fashion designer with a prOt-a-porter collection that goes under the name Christine Van Den Haute. Classy!
7) La Stagione Dei Sensi (Season Of The Senses) (1970) (Italy / West Germany) d: Massimo Franciosca , Udo Kier
9) `My father was a big old toad.My mother was a little wren.My brother was a slimy frog.My sister was a Commie Witch.' Now you wanna talk disfunctional.
12) Der Kommisar (1969-76) (West Germany, ZDF TV) Der Papierblumenmorder (Season 2, Episode 1) d: unknown, Eric Ode
Side 2
1) L'Ucello Dalle Piume Di Cristallo (Bird With The Crystal Plumage) (1970) (Italy / West Germany) d: Dario Argento, Tony Musante, Suzy Kendall
2) Fans of this might also like Divine Comedy.
6) Late 60's R'n'Roll yodeller meets Manchester's finest on a track that `borrowed' both lyrics & melody from David Essex's `Gonna Make You A Star', The Beatles `Ticket To Ride' & Sly's `It'a A Family Affair'.
8-9) Janet Kay, Queen Of Lovers Rock & Lindy Layton, Queen of Norman Cook's life for a milli second, joined forces for Lindy's cover of Janet's Silly Games. A silly game so it was as Janet essentially covered herself or rather she backed Lindy covering Janet. Something tells me it should have been the other way around.
10) As much as they were beholden to The Thin White Duke, Bauhaus didn't name themselves after Weimar's wacky design company to slap fluorescent goo on their faces and indulge in mere retro. An intelligence and willingness to experiment with dub & samples gave their aural exorcisms of Catholic guilt a welcome shot of humour. This for instance is a dubby instrumental played over excerpts from The Devil & Daniel Mouse (1978), (an animated feature of The Devil & Daniel Webster) featuring 2 out of work Folk Singing Mice. The girl mouse sells her soul to agent B.L. Zebubb to become a rock star and emmerges as `Funky Jan.'
11) Harp Boy Arnold, believing Chess honcho Len was throwing the Jewish Hoodoo his way, hopped labels to Chess rival Vee-Jay. Having cut his teeth in Bo Diddley's Band (the same outfit who'd cut the legendary Bo Diddley for Chess subsidary Checker) borrowed the Diddley beat for this raunchy funker.
12) Max Et Les Ferrailleurs (Max & The Junkmen) (1971) (France / Italy) d: Claude Sautet, Michel Piccoli, Romy Schneider

Feedback:
Looks interesting. I only know very little on here, but nice work all around.
Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this son of....Dom1. There are so many damnably good songs on this mix. Combined with most informative and interesting notes. It would be remiss of me to find fault. I, therefore, decline to do so. For the DON COVAY and HAPPY MONDAYS selections alone I'm going for five stars. I may have to resit 1st Year Mixing.
. . . I know quite a lot of this . . . Bauhaus always did it for me . . .
I, too, know more of this than many of your mixes...which only adds further proof (to me, anyway) of how superb a mixer you are.
Must've dug through many of the colored CD containers for this one.
Great notes, too!

I was apprehensive about the title of this mix. A mix named after a vascular disorder?! I have since realised it is also French for 'Taste', phew. You seem to have that in abundance.
wow indepth
Looks very fantastic, Dom. Very fantastic indeed.
Right up my lil Berlin alley, sir. PS: The director of "Der Papierblumenm÷rder" (first broadcast on January 16, 1970) was directed by Zbynech Brynych and starred, apart from the regular players, Erik Ode, Gnnter Schramm and Fritz Wepper, Thomas Fritsch (who was a relatively successful Schlager singer in his own right in he 60s).
The director was directed . . . OMG! When will they introduce a feature that lets you change your comments . . .?
Heh - like The Denim Delinquent I just got the French-English "gout" thing. D'oh. Love the look of this. It's always nice to see some Magnetic Fields represented, and like the Bauhaus, Portishead and Brigitte Bardot too.
Classic Dom.
Wonderful as always Dom. Helped immeasurably by the lovely cover painting. You've got real gout mon amie.
Superbly eclectic.
Great notes to a wonderful mix... again.
Excellent! Glad to see Earl Zinger.
And I thought you'd misspelled Sonic Youth's friend's name. Shows how much I know. Well, I do know this -- I've already commented on this mix, so you are aware of my liking for it. I just had to air my Sonic Youth gag. I am a sad man -- but happy.
Great as always, Dom. Lindy Layton went on to cover 'Silly Games' straight after 'Dub Be Good'. Was that intentional when placing both tracks side by side?
Note to sammyg123: indeed it was...most of my mixes are filled with links - some obvious i.e. title similar & others more obscure...silly games links to Party Of The First by nature of it's silliness...etc!
Sorry Dom, you explain this in your notes. Must be more vigilant! Entertaining mix.
Nice one!
Outstanding. The whole package. Bon gout.
Wot Valis sed (nice painting).
nice art, nice mix - can't beat that.
This looks crazy-good, as usual.
Truly a work of art!
Dom, Peter Thomas and Country Joe work great according to my rules.
And thanks for the nod, www.jonpoi.org is back up.
