The End Has Come... Look to the Sky
Comment:
What orginally began as a mix of creepy songs turned into a time-draining concept of one's journey during the end of the world. I tried to keep a certain mood throughout the cd and thus had to cut out a lot of songs I would have put in otherwise. I edited the gybe/set fire to flames songs to keep the flow of the cd. Commentary for the tracks:1. GYBE - Providence : The edit is a sample being asked about the end of the world. "The end of the world is coming, so says the Preacher Man. But I don't go by what the preacher man says..."
2. Eno & Byrne - Mea Culpa : Sets the mood of the cd.
3. Joy Division - Day of the Lords : "Where will it end?"
4. Nick Cave - "Red Right Hand" : Uhoh, here comes the devil
5. GYBE - Dead Flag Blues : "We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine and the machine is bleeding to death" A narrative of the end above saddening violins.
6. Tom Waits - Earth Died Screaming : Typical Tom Waits craziness "It rained mackeral, it rained trout" "The earth died screaming, while I laid dreaming... dreaming of you"
7. Radiohead - Amazing Sounds of Orgy " B-side off Kid-A. An end of the world singalong while accompanied with your loved one (a theme shared by the two previous songs).
8. GYBE - East Hastings : Apocalyptic crescendo rock - edited for flow. Begins with sample of an old woman yelling hallalujah and jesus christ.
9. Set Fire to Flames - Jesus, Pop : Edited just for the sample of "Jesus? I don't know... I don't care..."
10. 16 Horsepower - Sinnerman : Nina Simone cover of the same song. Where are you going to run sinnerman?
11. Low - Amazing Grace : A chilling song. Introduces salvation to the progression of the cd.
12. 16 Horsepower - Wayfaring Stranger : "I know dark clouds will gather round me, I know my way will be dark and steep" "I'll soon be free of earthly trials" A song of going home (to heaven).
13. Grandaddy - Aim Toward the Sky : A hopeful ending of an otherwise depressing cd. "So you'll aim toward the sky, and you'll rise... far away, far from pain" (repeat)
Feedback:
Sorry about the formatting. There were supposed to be spaces in between the comments. How do you get them to appear? Also, "Day of the Lords" is 4:49 and "Red Right Hand is 6:10.
I was rag'n on this website with some friends and then your play list here made me shut the hell up, nicely done, a few songs I'm not familiar with but overall I was pleased and am very interested in hearing a completed disc. You trade?
