Comment:
This mix features three songs by Buddy Holly and two each from The Everly Brothers, Gene Pitney, Duane Eddy (Instrumentals), and the Beach Boys. I would have used more of the later, but I'd already used two of their songs that hit big in the UK on my Summer of '68 & '69 mixes. I discovered these songs with the aid of Dave McAleer's "The Book of Hit Singles: Top 20 Charts from 1954 to the Present Day" by looking for songs that were in the top 20 in the UK but not in the US. There weren't a whole lot of these songs, but what there was tells an interesting story about differences in taste. Some of these songs with only charting information for the UK may not have been issued as a single in the US.Feedback:
This looks really good. I'd love to hear it. I've once put together a mix for a friend in England covering the same period, but I couldn't find some of the songs featured on here.
Another jewel.
Aces, Joe... ACES!
A most excellent usage of modern technology. First rate. You must restrain yourself, Joe. This could lead to a series, and madness lies therein....The irony of Blue Bayou being a hit in the UK only, is not lost on me.Smashing!
Great idea. Interesting to note several instrumentals on the list.Joe, you have been inducted into the Reading Room Annex - check it out today at AOTM Exhibits.
Looks like the UK was way ahead of the US on a lot of these.
