Tales of the Proverbial 2nd Chance v 28
Comment:
Reprise of the mix made for those who did not get a Valentine's Day card, or simply had nothing animate to receive one from. The first mix I did to utilize an audio book, the tome used for this is entitled "Love Tactics." If you are not familiar with the second track, "Rockin' At The Tea Dance," it is a true story about a Stephen King like horror that happened at the Hyatt Hotel in Kansas City. Every week, the Hyatt would sponsor this fantastic "tea dance" that was open to anyone in the city. Being that it was in a very urban location, the demographic of the folks that showed up was very wide and pointed to a great community get together. Well, I lived a few blocks from this hotel, and my sister and I were living together at the time and extremely poor. She wanted to take me out and gave me the choice of going to the tea dance or see Julie Andrew's tits as her new movie S.O.B. was opening at the local drive-in on the same evening. Having had a hard-on for Mary Poppins since I was a tyke, I eventually decided for the drive-in. While at the flick, being a drive-in, we heard sirens rolling by, and then they got stronger, and more frequent. We went home, went to sleep, and the next morning, we saw that the walkways at the Hyatt had collapsed and swung down on hundreds of people, killing scores because the rocking had been too much. Everytime I hear this song, I thank God, at least in my case, for my fascination with Julie Andrews' maguffeys. This is going out to those who are grateful that Valentine's Day is over, yet looking forward to the next one.

now this is some good stuff. cheers mate.
Fascinating anecdote Jon, in effect you are still here because of Mary Poppins mammaries. Wow! Thanks for the latest installment of your audio odyssey.
Fantastic. Julie Andrews is a couple of my favorite things too.
Great mix--you really hit the appropriate V-Day mood, I'd say. Do you know Billy Bragg's "Valentine's Day Is Over"?
Great story! Fun Mix!! Curtis' feeback is going to make me laugh throughout the day.
Another poignant tale of urban obssession and tragedy. Another arse-kicking mix. Another day in the topsy-turvy life of Dynamic DJ jonpoi --bringing joy and pleasure to mere mortals everywhere.I love this guy -- in a wholesome, legal and socially acceptable way of course.
Some choice selections here. Good story (though what's the Stephen King bit? Was stuff toppled by an angry telekinetic teenager?). Fun cover image!
That story is truly crazy. Luckily, you went to the film and are now able to make mixes like these. :-)
Another great story & another great mix. Nice one Jon!
I'm with Burns re: Julie Andrews...of course the beauty of your mixes are the way the tracks fade into the next one!
Had to jump in again, now that I've listened -- well, I'm gonna listen again. No, wait, I've still got Volumes 1 to 89 to catch up with...oh what fun!No, I'm Thai too...Muffled splutter...
This and a spoonful of somethin' will make the medicine go down.
That spoon, that spoon, that spoonful!
