Comment:

My father is lying in the room beneath me with the flu, occasionally calling me on his cell phone so he doesn't have to yell. I was thinking about U2's "MLK" and how it is nice music and even though my father already knows it I decided to make him a mix. He probably won't listen to it until he feels less headachey, but it's all been picked with the flu in mind.

Seeing them perform MLK live is up there with my great concert moments, but not as high up as Neko Case "I Wish I Was the Moon" or the Shins or watching Stephen Merritt or watching Robbie Fulks. Perhaps also not as great as Etta James. Okay, but it was definitely in my top 30. Definitely ahead of Stone Temple Pilots, Garbage, or even Kiss. Better than Kiss, that's something. At any rate, I like that sng, and I like the idea of anchoring the mix with that song.

If this fails to cure your poor dad -- and it looks pretty potent and medicinal to me --he might try Rob Conroy's mix "After I Get Sick, I Just Get Sad". You'll find it further up the page. 17-19 -- lovely.
