Where nothing ever happens
Comment:
This is my newly revised, now 2-disc Taliking Heads collection, compiled from the new remasters and spanning their first five studio albums (plus the Stop Making Sense album). I know that there are some worthy songs on those last three studio records, but I haven't bothered to purchase them on CD and can't imagine that I'd want to put any of those songs on here before any of those included here. Last tracks cut: NONE!!! (This was the ultra-rare case where everything I wanted to include fit snugly onto these two CDS.)Feedback:
I've been waiting to find those reissues at the right price, since, like you, I know I'll end up buying all of these (and probably Little Creatures as well, though I agree that everything after Speaking In Tongues is of less interest). You've pretty much handpicked my faves here; can't think of any thing I'd do differently (if I stuck to those first 5 discs).
As "Single Artist" mixes go, this appears faultless. I'm assuming that "Burning Down The House" and "Slippery People" are the live "Stop Making Sense versions. In which case it's all good.
I Love talking heads but I hate David Byrne's solo stuff. Nah it's not gonna work is it?
Great collection!
Great collection!
No "Road to Nowhere"? *cries*
Very cool otherwise. I like some of your lesser-known picks ("The Good Thing", "Born Under Punches", "Uh Oh Love Comes to Town", "Big Country", "I Zimbra" and others). And I don't know quite why, but just like the "Best of Talking Heads" comp did, your opening track just seems perfect. What better way to get it started?

Someone digs the Talking Heads.
Rob, Sting ought to bop you on the head for ignoring two of those last three albums. Here is the part that will save you, though. Tell me these are the new 5.1 surround sound versions. I can't argue with the material whatsoever, but there needs to be a third disc. The nice thing about CDs is that everything fits like there is no room left.
Nice collection. I'm looking forward to grabbing those new remasters too.
I don't think I've even heard a single Talking Heads song. Perhaps not knowing. Perhaps I'll rid myself of this ignorance now.
Nice collection of a band that I haven't listened to in too long.
Very good!
Love the More Songs About...cd. Is the remastered version a quantum leap in quality over my non-remastered version? Hope all is well in the SuperBowl champ city.
Good band & equally good mix!
Hard to go wrong with this band. Completely agree with you concerning their output...and I, too, am not familiar with their latter works...and wouldn't front the cash to find out. I figure anything worth noting would be found on Anthologies/Best Of Comps.
Nicely done, I've been wearing out the "Stop Making Sense" disc of late.
I really enjoy to listen talking heads, and this looks like a great collection !
fantastic band
First 3 Heads LP's are essential. More Songs is probably my favourite. Geek rock was rarely ever so cool.
while i agree that they ended quite lamely, i think you underrate 'little creatures'. 'stay up late,' 'road to nowhere' and especially 'and she was' are all keepers. (and remix of latter as a CD bonus track - i have the 12-inch - is worth hearing, and dancing to.) the expanded live 'name of this band is talking heads' has been on heavy roration around here for months. notwithstanding, nicely done rob
It pains me to see those Heads remasters on shelves knowing they are in the god awful, dodgy, worthless DualDisc format...meaning I'll never spend a red cent on them. I dunno if I could cover these guys in just two discs. For starters, I'd be tempted to put all of "Remain In Light" on there. Anyhow, this is a nice set, although I agree with the others who have said there are a few gems on the last three records. Heck, my personal favorite Heads song is one of the last ones they recorded and wasn't even on an album ("Sax & Violins"). If you're ever interested in getting the demos, alternate mixes and such that aren't on the remasters, let me know, as I have them all (including the new iTunes-only compilation).
