Comment:
When Mars boasted `a Mars a day can help you work rest and play' I don't supposethe company suits thought their uber sweet choc bar would be seen oozing out of Marianne's vagina by police officers conducting a drugs raid. That of course has been vehemently denied by Marianne. As she's always candid I'm inclined to believe it was just wishful thinking on the part of who ever said they saw a Mars Bar sticking out of Marianne's vagina.
(For US readers) I believe what we know and love as a Mars Bar is in The USA known as a Milky Way. To confuse us further a Milky Way in England is in fact a bar you can eat without ruining your appetite. It ruins everything else but not your appetite.
I think it's fair to say that it took a shit load of drugs to transform Marianne Faithfull from a pretty singer of ill repute into an ugly singer of great repute. Born in 1946 to Eva Erisso an Austrian Jewish Baroness & Major Glynn Faithfull a WW2 Spy. She is related through her mother to Leopold Von-Sacher-Moser author of Venus In Furs. Faithfull converted to Catholocism at request of her convant school.
Discovered by Stones' manager Andrew Lloyd Oldham at a launch partty for the boys. Before Mick, she married John Dunbar and fell in love with Keef. I'm unsure who screwed who or if screwed is the right word to use as Mick, Keith, Bill & Charlie royally screwed Brian to death. According to Marianne, Mick wanted to screw Keith. Sadly for Mick, Keith's a man's man as opposed to Mick's man and preferred druggery to buggery even though druggery involved wearing Kohl eye-liner.
Seen as Mick's muse she inspired She's A Rainbow, Sister Morphine, As Tears Go By, Wild Horses & You Can't Always Get You Want. In other words, like Chrissie Shrimpton before her, she couldn't get Mick or at least keep Mick as he quit his Rock'n'Roll life and became a company director for Mars. Okay so he went off with Bianca.
Between 1970-79 Faithfull did virtually nothing but drugs. In 1979 she released Broken English, considered by many to be her finest album. Since that watershed album, she has worked with everyone and anyone from Lenny Kravitz to Metallica, from P.J. Harvey & Nick Cave to David Stewart & The Chieftans, from Pink Floyd to Tom Waits. Screen appearances include Ophelia in Hamlet (1969) , Girl On A Motorcycle (1968) and Kenneth Anger's Lucifer Rising (1969). Recent appearances include Ab Fab alongside friend & fellow Stone F**ker Anita Pallenberg.
Many Dankes to Thomas Mohr for Karel Golt's Paint It Black.
Sketch of Marianne by D.L.J.Mann (Dom1) (my scanner has failed to recognize dark passages on the lip area.so it doesn't quite look right)

Feedback:
Excellent notes, excellent tracks, excellent cover. Anybody got a Milky Way stashed about their person?
Beautiful Dom. Love the sketch.
This is awesome. She's worthy of a tribute, as well. Great mix and great notes, as always.
I agree with all of the previous comments.
Funny thing, I was just reading about her today and the rest of Mick's cadre of ladies. Beautiful mix and wonderfully thought out.
She and this mix kick so much ass.
This looks super interesting!
A fine mix and very interesting liner notes. Karel Gott doing the Stones... oh du meine Gnte!
this is beautiful, Dom1; the music & the art. I first heard Ms. Faithfull while working in a record store in Yakima, WA in '87. It was a dark, rainy night and the neon "open" sign was glowing in the window. I put on an unfamiliar record: "Strange Weather." the music was perfect for the mood and I was hooked. a lovely tribute.
La Reine est morte, vive la Reine! Is there a Part Two?
This may be your finest!
Looks fabulous Dom.
A beautifully crafted homage. Made by one who clearly knows their subject. There are many fine songs here. The notes add insight and interest. This mix crys out to be heard. If trading is possible, then so be it.
A fantastic sketch certainly, i'm very impressed. The mix is great, a real labour of love it seems. I always found the final track to be hilarious in a word, I'd love to hear that live version.
Well done, Dom. This also deserves to be a backing to some interesting video. Contact Scorcese.
Nice Nico and Love picks. Imagine if they'd found a Oh Henry! up her privates...
A great collection and wonderful tribute.
Looks fantastic! I'd gladly trade a Mars Bar for it (vagina not included).
Ditto George. Very nice.
Mmmm. Now I'm hungry for chocolate...
This is wicked cool. Love the Gott through the finale stretch! Wow. I've seen Girl On A Motorcycle - dreadful - and have the soundtrack which is far better than the flick.
Exquisite mix, kooky & entertaining notes, striking sketch. All around perfection.
What no Gobi comment, the man is crazy bout her. Choc full of goodness.
Very, very nice indeed. Wow, it's been a long time since I've had a Milky Way. Love the Morricone -> Velvet Underground transition, but the whole thing is good!
Excellent - and I guess you had to end with that track really! She's great, isn't she!
