Comment:

Reprise of the marriage mix. This is a personal favorite. Also, it is one of the truest radio mixes I have done. I was on a mission. I was getting married in a quick time stylee and we didn't waste our time for breathing. We left the house at 8am and arrived in Las Vegas 22 hours later. We checked into the hotel, made love and then decided to go to the court house for the marriage certificate. That took about 15 minutes. We walked out of the court house and a hawker pulled us to a chapel around the corner and we were married about 15 minutes later. We were out of Vegas and onward to Texas a few hours after that. We were dead and needed resurrection badly. This mix reflects that and was nice to have along for the trip. There are an extremely high number of themes running throughout this presentation. Noteworthy are the Breathe themes as they change from a bluegrass tribute to a reggae tribute to a slight taste of the unlisted original. Just A Girl introduces itself as acapella. Joe Frank, during his radio show, called about seven of his old girlfriends and sang the same song to each one. For that one hysterical item, it's a pretty good show. But to hear Joe Frank also do the vocals on the subsequent Brazzaville track, one can get a real good sense for the genius that is Joe Frank. The Captain Sensible track is just bizarre. My wife and I are huge South Pacific fans, and this one popped up during a search among all of my Happy Talk tracks. I still can't believe this was a major hit in the UK. I still can't believe it is Captain Sensible. My remix of the Joe Strummer tune is one I am extremely proud of. No ego, no joke, I think it is better than the original. And the segue from it into my extended version of Do You Realize turned out to be one of those superserendipitific items I think the Lips would appreciate. And as I said, the presentation is very radio-centric as we were headed to Dallas, Texas - home of the Top 40. When ZZ Top says "Do you remember back in 1966," indeed I do, and fondly. The X was hard not to notice spinning the dial late night. Chubby Checker for his was my very first record at age three. Okinawa for patronage to my adopted neighborhood of Kyushu and topping it off with the original of a favorite of my bride's. Oh, yeah. James worked out great all over the show, and hey, in my book, it is hard to top the insanity of the Hi-Lo's. I recommend this volume strongly. To me, this is what a mix should be. Nothing less, and being shorter than a hour, appropriately nothing more. Very very listener friendly. Well, I guess that's it.

A lot to take in here. Compelling notes. I have a deeper appreciation of the mix from what you've written. I got married in Las Vegas as well, but it wasn't quite as spontaneous as your experience. We made reservations at the wedding chapel before we left for Las Vegas and then we drove to the Grand Canyon. I'd love to hear this, especially Joe Frank.

Another chapter in the globe-straddling life of jonpoi. You have stated that: "To me, this is what a mix should be". It would be remiss of me to challenge this. I won't. It's a damnably fine way to spend less than 60 minutes. I expect no less from you. So thanks for again for fulfilling those expectations.

Wonderful. It thrills me to see ZZ Top on a mix.
