Comment:

In a shocking AOTM scandal, I've gone and stolen this idea 100% from mixer Mark Petruccelli, who posted a mix of rock songs with saxophone just a week or so ago. But it got me thinking about doing my own version, and here it is. As noted in connection with that mix, one of the finest ways to ruin a perfectly decent rock & roll song (setting aside funk and R&B) is to toss in a cheesy brass section (or, God forbid, strings). But here are some exceptions. Next up? A mix of decent rock tunes with piano (tentative title: Billy Joel Must Die). Coming soon to a Starbucks near you.

The Doors "Touch Me" and Jr. Walker made me fall in love with the sax. Very nice.

Hey Pop, your purloining of my concept just further proves my point. I didn't realize that I had only scratched the surface, nicely done! Although...I am upset about the cover because that squirrel once beat me out for a studio gig.

I was all set to suggest Blue Thunder but you have got it covered. This looks very listenable against the odds.

I love a well-placed sax-a-mo-phone. The lead-off track is one of Bruce's best.

Fabuloso! Is that rock-piano mix idea a challenge. I'd have a go myself; but I can almost guarantee that 23 other AOTM'ers will do a better job. Possibly even 24.This is indeed a first rate rock-saxaphone mix. Most commendable.

Nice job & selections. I think David Sanborn's work on Bowie's Young Americans album is right up there with the best of them, especially Somebody Up There Likes Me.

I knew you had to have All the Way from Memphis on here even before I looked at the playlist. I just bought the Legacy Remaster (finally out!) of the Mott cd that I wore out in the 70's. The Stones and the Doors cuts round this out nicely. Best to you.

A sax mix without Gerry Rafferty? That aside, this mix has plenty of sax appeal (has anyone used that awlful pun yet?) And who said the Chipmunks didn't play their own instruments?

I am a brass and string man myself. But I won't let the liner notes spoil this mix. Interesting lack of Beatles.

Nice choices and a good addition to this theme. Glad you got The Right Profile in there - one of my favourite sax tracks, and the Kinks pick is great too.

I hate that Springsteen song, but like-to-love most of these songs (thus placing this mix closer to my heart than Mark's). That said, I'd like just about all of these more WITHOUT the saxophone (that Galaxie 500 song, in particular). :-)
