Comment:

The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side. - Hunter S. Thompson Still a great 'quote'.

Very interesting mix...Wish I knew more about your sources.I do know more about Hunter S. Thompson and thought I'd share the following which comes from the Chicago Tribune of 2/24/05 (shortly after his death):The quote, which has appeared often in print and electronic media in recent years, differs from a version in Thompson's "Generation of Swine" that reads: "The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason." There is no second sentence about "a negative side." Some observers believe that in its frequent retelling, "the TV business" became "the music business" and the second sentence was added by persons unknown.

The sophisticated side of stereo continues. NPR would neither be scared nor poo-poo this.

Great stuff. Love the Ahmed Abdul-Malik pick and the Rabih Abou-Khalil -> Yusef Lateef and Brad Shepik -> Miles bits especially.

Right up there with: "Play it again, Sam." The mix as biting satire lives on. And like DiCarlo, I'd love to hear it.

Jonpoi is totally right, this is a rather slick NPR-ish mix. I think they also champion Hunter S. Thompson.
