Comment:

While looking through some old mix-tapes that I might want to recreate on CD I came across my first AotM submission posted six years ago. I thought it'd be fun to resubmit an update to celebrate my anniversary. Previous to AotM I rarely made tracklistings for my mixes & had to scramble to find something I knew front-to-back to post the fateful night I discovered this fine site. The mix itself is an okay enough overview of indie rock circa mid-90's, but it's the personal recollection of making this that really grabs me every time I listen to it. Things were looking up in the summer of '95. I'd finally wrapped up school when Michelle & I learned we'd have one more addition to the family beyond the Border collie puppy we'd just purchased. Most of the tunes on the original mix came from vinyl sources, primarily for economical rather than aesthetic reasons. I'd stop by Ajax or Reckless on my way home from school on Fridays to shop with the money I'd earned selling my blood or participating in medical studies that week. Back then, mix covers were often constructed from the party invites found near the record store doors. This particular one was a picture of Felix the Cat with the word "Pleasure" on it for some reason. A lot has changed since then including my musical tastes & listening habits, but my love of mixes remains solid. Thanks to all past, current & future Aotm'ers who've shared their mixes, opinions or just dropped a comment to say that they love that song too.

Lovely time capsule, lo-fi. thanks for the story and the spirit in which this mix was posted. I hope you are not still selling your precious blood -- is this a common practice down your way?. Now that's a real addiction to records. Happy Anniversary.

So mix making is in your blood? ;) Thanks for the memories -- and the mixes. Congratulations on your anniversary here as well. I've seen many people come and go from the site, so it's good to keep hearing from mixers that have been here from the beginning. Cool mix, but you knew that.

I received "Speeding Motorcycle" in the first mix tape trade I made on-line. It was a favorite and I haven't thought about that tune or that tape in a long time. Congrats on your anniversary.

I too would like to say Happy Anniversary. This mix is amazing. This is exactly the type of mix I was making in my later stages of high school and first year university. So much stuff I still love. Great mix.

Happy 6th, #451...nice upgrade. I think I might have this on cassette somewhere, from back in '42 (must check the Tape Box). 'Course now
that those high falutin' CD-R thingeys are so popular, who listens to tapes anymore?

I actually prefer burning from vinyl when the opp. presents itself.
I get that warm & glowing feeling from the familiar crackle & pop.

It's ALL in the mix. That's what me brother & I say with regularity. This mix is ALL that. Happy 6, and let's hope AOTM's site can be maintained for the next six (albiet with bailing twine, chicken wire and bubblegum at times)

I think g.a.b.'s is confusing his vinyl with his Rice Krispies. A common mistake. When Snap released their first record, confusion reigned...

Happy Anniversary! I am with g.a.b. l@bs when it comes to the "warm fuzzies" felt with the vinyl cracklings. Sometimes, and don't tell anyone, I add the cue-burn or pops of needle-to-the-groove to bring a sort of "texture" to a mix and make a clean sterile mp3 seem older. This submission is a nice collection of familiar friends. Nicely done.

Looks like you and I both discovered the site back in 2000. You arrived nine months before I did. Happy Anniversary to us both.
