Comment:

For my friend Leslie on her upcoming birthday. I actually put this mix together eight days ago and have been periodically trying to post this during the two-second intervals that I've been on-line lately, but the site seems to have been down. I promise, incidentally, to catch up on all of the mixes that I've missed during the past few weeks. Incidentally, I thought I was sick a few weeks ago, but that was absolutely nothing when compared with the tonsilitis that I'm experiencing right now. Title (in a somewhat bastardized form) from the Pink Mountaintops track.

You still have your tonsils?!? I always pictured you to be much older. It is a nice looking collection. Yet, I am always curious about why certain tracks were selected for certain people. And I remain curious about the tonsils. I have learned that the Japanese never have these things removed.

I thought I saw this mix in a five and dime on Market. But when I looked closer it was a book of Andluvian Cartography for Tsaoists. It's this kind of thing that causes major misunderstandings. So, against such machinations the mix has proved itself worthy. I am warmed by the whole experience. Happy Birthday Leslie, and get well soon, Rob. I'll light a candle -- it won't make you better, but it looks nice in the bathroom.

Love O'Malley's Bar. I've always been most fond of Cave's overly long songs. Also really like that 1-3 run.

So what use are tonsils? Still got mine but don't think I'd miss em if I didn't. Love the first 8 tracks especially here. & am hoping there's no message in the closer or Leslie's got a big problem!

Thanks for all of the comments. To clarify: there are no "messages" in any of these songs. In fact, this started off as a "for-the-hell-of-it" mix and only changed when I remembered that her birthday was coming up. Since I'd already slated the Pink Mountaintops song for inclusion and since I think she'd like just about all of this (although the Nick Cave might try her patience a bit), I've now dedicated the mix to her. And yes, I've still got my tonsils--I was born in '71 and don't think doctors were randomly removing them by that point, although I honestly wish they had done so.

Ouch, sorry to hear about the tonsilitis - it's a horrible thing. (And just to add my tuppence to the "tonsil report", I still have mine :) ) But it's good to see you back posting mixes, and this looks very nice indeed - like the Billy Bragg, Warren Zevon and Talking Heads. Nice opener too. Get well soon!

Good to see ya back, Rob. I've noticed that you've been suspiciously absent from the site for awhile. Hope your health improves and that Leslie enjoys this gift.

Some of us who, just hypothetically, may be turning 40 this year, strongly urge everyone to stop talking about age... Anyway, looks nifty all around, and I'm always glad to see further evidence that one can enjoy both Billy Bragg and Yes and not necessarily be entirely psychotic.

Holy shit, dude!!! Really, really fuckin' great stuff here. Of course, I love that Pink Mountaintops track along with pretty much everything else on this mix. Super big props for the Yes->Wooden Wand stretch and I'm also pretty fond of that Nick Cave track. Awesome.

I hate Jeff Lynne's production, but enjoy the occasional ELO nugget. ;-)
