Comment:
After recently accusing myself of only compiling 'Pop' mixes I thought, ah to hell with it I'll just go overboard and create my Perfect Pop Mix. 'The Best POP Album In The World Ever' if you will. What seemed like an easy project ended up being anything but. After 3 title changes, over 10 cover changes and more tracklist changes than you can shake a stick at I ended up here. With a title I'm unsure of, a cover I liked at first, but now am not sure of. And a mix I LOVE, and hey that's the main thing right? Sure. Track 1 will be instantly familiar, certainly to the Brits on AOTM as legendary Aussie Dj Alan 'Fluff' Freeman's signature tune, firstly when presenting the UK Top 40 rundown in the 60's and early 70's and then subsequently for his nostalgia based radio show 'Pick Of The Pops' from which this mix's title is borrowed. The rest of the tunes are tracks that from the first listen I instantly loved & probably always will. This mix is dedicated to Smash Hits 1978 - 2006 R.I.PMIX

Feedback:
Arista says they love you but the kids can't dance to it.
Good fun.
Pop is not a dirty word. I'm in the process of coming up with something along the same lines. Hope it can compare -you've set the bar dauntingly high. Great ( & entirely logical) opener.
Looks great to me.
your cover is a rainbow! what's to be unsure of? it's terrific. the whole enterprise looks wonderful, Sam. I'd forgotten about that Strawberry Alarm Clock tune.
Wow, this looks fabulous. "Get Ready" is a clever touch. Doesn't Zumpano have something to do with The New Pornographers?
I believe Carl Newman takes lead in both bands Ed, yes.
Pop is a 3 letter word
Did Smash Hits die?? Oh boy thats put a dampner on my morning. Sam you are the new King of Pop, well especially now Jacko is up the creek. Every single song here that I know is a fave. Im especially keen to discover if Frente have another good song and if that Bryan Ferry song is what I fear it might be, all will be revealed...
makes my heart go pitty pat! Not any filler in this sausage. Star points for 2-5-9-12-26. I bow to your artistry!
Not 'arf, Sam. Alright?
Frente song was indeed a little cracker and Ferry didnt butcher one of my favourite songs of all time, phew! Aside from all that I declare this to be your finest effort yet, I love it!
Pop pickin' perfection.
Poptacular!!
This looks perfect indeed. Can't wait to listen.
You know what, if you're going to post nothing but pop mixes and they're all going to be of this standard, then go ahead! :) This is awesome, I am a big sucker for pop mixes and I love the look of this one. I'll never get tired of Girls & Boys, and Babies is one of my favourites, ever. Also like the Ash, BFF, The Smiths and Pixies tracks. For the record, I used to get every issue of Smash Hits when I was about 13/14; it was truly fantastic.
If you posted 800 mixes just like this, then I'm with Siobhan. :-) Special props for the Pulp, Pixies, Only Ones, Blur, Nick Lowe and Shins picks.
Pop lovers of the world unite and take over! Nothing beats a great pop mix, and there's plenty to get excited about here -- Spearmint, XTC, David Dundas (can anyone name another song he did? Didn't think so), Ash, Pooh Sticks, Big Star... I'm joining this rainbow "cool"-ition
Love the Nick Lowe and Blondie cuts. The late 70's was great, eh?
Some great picks here. Nice one.
Fan-freakin'-tastic. Awsome! Enough said.
Very very nice intro you have there. Fuck Arista. AND FANTASTIC SEGUE SIR!! You have my Compleat Admiration for that one. It is downright Jonpoipoi. And what is that?!? Did you remix that? Yet, you are holding back on us. Get into cut and paste 'cause you could have punched up that 2 into 3 segment. Nonetheless, you couldn't have been more on target. Very nice placement for a familiar tune. I think you have potential MOTW status at this point in the listening. You have me for the entire session however things go. And this is a dandy spring mix. Thus the cover is decidely faithful. Yoku dekimashita. Keep it up. And keep that cut and paste in mind.
POP R GO!
I have seen the future -- it is the past -- it belongs to sammyg123. Luckily, he has promised to share his pop vision with us all -- yay! Sammy. Furthermore, I, for one, love the rainbow symbolism of the cover. Smash Hits may be gone, but sammyg will never let us forget its legacy. You gotta love this guy.
you always need a big dose of great pop
