Comment:
1)Swaggering hip from Down Under's Lounge Lizard. Often linked to Nick Cave.2) Organ groove with stripper sax
6) Sharp suited Mick Karn and his plucky bass steered Sylvian's Ferryesque vocal traits away from being a mere clone & injected the sound with, dare I say, oriental inflections. I say dare because Oriental whiffs of Colonialism. In my defence the jury is out as to whether Japan were indeed influenced by Japan or their arch enemy China. If it's China then irony abounds. Sylvian, of course jumped ship and has since enjoyed a quiet solo career that doesn't involve slapping his boat race with pancake. Karn's whereabouts I don't know, but I'm sure even in the supermarket he's air bassing majecstically.
7) Cool'n'Easy Piano based instrumental with backing girl la la las.
8) A stunning arrangement from Spector pupil Son. Mediterranean strings, off kilter lyrics - Socrates for chrissakes.Back then ChTr (notice the accent) was chic and modelled for Vogue. Her ethnic look (she's part Armenian don't you know) ran against the fashion for what you guys across the pond commonly refer to as WASP.
9) A gorgeous seduction, with Meditteranean overtones, to accompany call girl Jane Fonda's slinky undress in front of aeging client Goldfarb.
10) A sub standard Gainsbourg & Birkin pairing committed to wringing every last orgasm from Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus. Actually Gainsbourg did that.
11) Maximum Pop fun from the now you see her now you don't Lolly
13) Portishead in everything but name complete with English lyrics, Beth Orton vocals and that trip hop groove. Other gems from the soundtrack includes a version of Across A 110th Street with different lyrics by a Bobby Womack soundalike who couldn't quite lose the Italian accent. It's not called Across A 110th Street and Bobby Womack is not credited, probably cos no one thought Bobby would buy a soundtrack for an Italian Cop Show.
1) Mostly percussive instrumental work out with vocals at beginning and end. As well as Art, should that not be enough, players include Philly Joe Jones on drums & timpani and Ray Baretto on percussion.
3) The Staple Singers, or rather Mavis getting it on - her Gospel roots sure makes the sex sexier.
4) Funky it ain't, but pretty and involving it is.
5) Okay so I hate Simply Red just as much as you do. But this one simmers the right side of lush and you can't deny Hucknall has a good set of lungs even if he is Ginger. Oh yeah Polanski directed, Morricone scored and if that ain't enough you get Emmanuelle Seigner in various changes of sexy apparell.did I forget to mention it's set in Paris?
7) Teasy purrings from Swedish born sex bomb and number one lady in Elvis's 30 plus female leads.
8) Guilia & Sandro Alessandroni on vocal swoon of dib dib dah dahs & bib bib bah bahs in this Klaus Kinski gangster flick. What we mean by vocalese are wordless vocals - a staple of many a soundtrack from Europe during the 60's and 70's.
9) A cool blow of Jazz from Dankworth for this Vitti/Stamp Vehicle that ran out of gas before the cameras started rolling.
12) Often over-rated by bed sit journalists who mistakenly equate indie & failiure to mean genius. Felt's good but not good enough to overlook their tea pot production & overlong instrumentals inspired by too much of something and too little of anything else. Phantastic titles like Textile Ranch or Serpent Shade meant to match your mind alight. In a room with a sink and stove for company, you'd be forgiven for hoping it might alight more than just your mind. Anyone got 50p for the gas meter? I wanna cook some beans.
10) Best known for representing France in 1993 Eurovision Song Contest - French lyrics - not unlike Natascha Atlas which is a good thing in small doses.
11) Soundtrack version with growling cat effects - different to woeful version found on Let's Dance.
Feedback:
Cool groove. Alan Hawkshaw is my avatar.
Yes. yes. yes. This'll hit the spot.
Getting a good vibe from this.
Dom 1 AOTM 0. Another victory for the most in-depth mixer around. We'll have to wait for the second leg to see if Dom goes through. I wouldn't bet against it.
Slick. I want it.
Beautiful! (Agree about the Bowie, too.) FELT!
Nice one. Still, I gotta wonder what Nomates means by "in-depth".
Finally able to see this! Fantastic stuff - love the Mylo, Dusty, Beach Boys and Staple Singers. Plus, your liner notes are always really interesting.
Lolly! Last week I had to teach 'vibe' to 15 Colombians and demonstrated with an off-key dose of Brian Wilson. It worked.
la la la la vybe!
Looks like you're skating right on the edge of la la luscious luxury.

Another reminder that I am a retread among radials.
Very cool. Love the Blakey through Beach Boys especially.
Fantastic, as usual.
