Comment:
More secret agents & spies inspired by James Bond or at least made in the wake of James Bond's Box Office success. Italy, like everywhere else, wanted to get in on the Bond Box Office and so made their fair share of Bond inspired movies. Often managing to fit 007 into the title and starring Italian actors who had their names changed to sound American. The cast list often included an actress or actor who had been in the last Bond movie. The most famous spy other than 007 was Len Deighton's Harry Palmer (Ipcress File etc), a gritty anti-hero/ antidote to the gadget armed 007. A thinking man's James Bond who didn't get the girl. Palmer wore glasses which made him vulnerable; he was cynical beyond his years and if given the choice he'd far rather stay in bed. If Bond's enemies were meglomaniacs with perverse passions then Palmer's enemy was real, cynical and brutal. Locales were distinctly Cold War, grey, steel, cold and wet. This couldn't be further from Bond's ever changing exotica. Both the Palmer movies & Bonds were produced by Harry Saltzman & obviously shared the same composer, John Barry. Len Deighton never named his anti-hero as the novels were written in the first person - it was Saltzman who chose his name. Enjoy!
Feedback:
Again, wonderful.
I want to watch all these movies back-to-back (turning down the sound of course and listening to your soundtrack).
I'll have it shaken, not stirred . . .
Another wonderfully executed themed mix. Really cool.
My goodness you're thorough! The 5.6.7.8.'s inclusion just makes me smile.Very well done, again.
Marvelous! (Love the Secret Squirrel inclusion.)
Peerless stuff. Only Dom could do it this good.
Great looking as always. Puhleeze work on letting us have a listen!!!!!!!
I'm out, Dom. Too cool for this fool. Keep up the SUPERB work...
Mix making magic.
Remarkable, Dom. I absolutely love the fact that Secret Squirrel made the mix. Love the final two too.
Wow, I'm in awe. This is fantastic. (I'm hoping for "A View to a Kill" on Vol. 3)
as usual wonderful
Very nice! Like the Count Basie (but REALLY like the Matt Munro version), and there are some really well thought-out choices, like the Terence Stamp pick and the Ipcress File music.
Some very cool stuff! Just one comment for someone who likes to includes details and annotations... the most helpful thing on a song listing is missing here... track numbering!
Your usual standards of excellence are found here in abundance. So many of your mixes are eminently desirable -- if you are unable, or do not wish to make them downloadable, so be it. However, trading is always a most agreeable option -- what say you?
DAMN! Terence Stamp -AND- Secret Squirrel..?! Stir mine then shake it then stir it some more...
Damn, you must have the coolest record collection.
