Comment:

For a friend and her 16 year old daughter. The daughter, I've come to find out, is a Yes fan and has been reading Kundera. Kids these days.Close observers will note that I've used "She Is Loaded" on a previous mix. To them I say, "stop observing closely."

An interesting collection. I think that was the first Zappa song I ever heard. On a late night "underground" station back in early 67. I bought that album with one of my first ever paychecks. I was 16.

This is really cool - should be a hit. Sounds like a pretty hip kid. I would have never thought that Yes would be cool among high schoolers again, but I've seen that among a few of my students, too.

Nice Syd, Yes and Zappa picks. I was turned onto zappa in my teens but didn't discover Freak Out until much later. Saw Yes when I was 16 tho (my first rock show.)

I recently borrowed a Best-of-Yes compilation from the library in order to see if maybe it was worth another spin after 25 yrs - and I must admit I found it absolutely unlistenable. I still remembered just about every note of it, but the band as a whole was so pretentious (and the lyrics so laughable) it was bordering on the absurd. The rest of this seems quite delightful. And it's always a pleasure to see some Argento and EFL (not ELP) on a mix.

This is absolutely gorgeous (although not always in the conventional sense) and fantastic. I especially love the Eno, Can, Mothers, Yes, Barrett... hell, I actually love this whole thing.

Amazing how you can change venues and still play with exceptional fluidity...a trait I've attempted though doubtfully acheived.
I, too, happen to really enjoy Yes. And, the song you chose is fantastic! Actually, Close to the Edge is one of my all-time faves and would be willing to bear the brunt for admitting so. Though, I concede Thomas' observation about Anderson's lyrics: absolute nonsense. But to these ears, their musicality, musicianship and willingness to commit to lengthier opuses (or is that opi?) are admirable.

Dig it but a big no to Yes. The other 18 are tops though.

Excellent stuff. Love the Brian Eno, and particularly the fact that it's paired with Mr. Wyatt. The Can track's a nice pick too.
