Comment:

No, this isn't an Interpol mix, although Interpolations could be a clever title for one. An interpolation is a melody or lyrics lifted from one song and incorporated into another. Lyrical interpolations, quite common in hip-hop, sometimes are called excerpts. Interpolations differ from samples because the lyrical or melodic component is recorded by another artist, and interpolations can't be considered covers because a cover would be a complete song (whether faithful to the original or not). For example, in Jimmy Eat World's "A Praise Chorus," a line Jim Adkins sings is "Crimson and clover / over and over." That's a pretty obvious reference, but some interpolations are tougher to recognize.
For this mix, I avoided hip-hop and went with rock 'n' roll, a genre where the practice is less common and, arguably, less noticeable.
For the most part, I structured the mix so the songs with interpolations could be next to the song (or songs) that inspired the borrowing.
