Daddy Horny, Michael (Wonderful Things)
Comment:
I stole this idea from others on the site who made mixes featuring horns. This one isn't quite as good as some of the ones I saw, but I enjoy it.Feedback:
hey, any mix that includes Van Morrison, Tom Waits (those horns are damned insane, i say), the Pogues, Rufus Wainwright's "14th Street" (one of the best pop songs i've ever heard) and THREE They Might Be Giants songs is more than all right by me. the balanace between the different types of songs on this mix seems like it's well worked out well too.
Horns really do bring out the excellence in some artists. I heartily 2nd what abangaku said, only adding Joe Jackson, The Clash, B+S, one of the catchiest Cure songs, Jens, Richman, and Eels (fuck, what a line-up!) to the overwhelming evidence supporting this mix's brilliance. The few songs on here that I don't know are quickly going to become personal favorites, I'm sure. Great stuff :)
Wow, you've hit so many of my favorite artists on here that its scary. This is directly up my alley and parked at my front door! Great job!
Glad other people enjoyed it! I've been really digging that Badly Drawn Boy song especially when listening to this mix. I wasn't a huge fan of Have You Fed the Fish when it came out, but it's definitely grown on me. I'm just now discovering Jans Lekman, too, so I've been enjoying that, too. I have to say that I didn't fully appreciate Pencil Rain until I saw it used on Malcolm in the Middle, though. Same goes for Spiralling Shape.
And Mark, yours was one of the ones I saw that made me want to make this, so I appreciate the compliment!
mmmmmm, tasty!
Looks damned good to me :)
So much of this is so good that I can almost tolerate the ever-annoying They Might Be Giants. The "Arrested Development" reference is an added bonus.
Yeah, this looks really really nice.
