EXCERPTS FROM OPERAS

01-04 Bars, taverns, saloons

05-09 Banquets, balls, receptions

10-12 Weddings

13-15 They've gone country

16-17 Things go better with coke

18-21 Many reasons to celebrate

22-23 Private affairs

24-25 Kidz stuff

The people in this mix are mostly having a pretty good time, and the music is correspondingly
melodic and upbeat.
(That is much in contrast to the distraught and dangerous dames of

Divas With Daggers.)
But if 77m33s is more opera than you were looking for,
for a 5 track sampler as follows:

06 - Don Giovanni is literature's notorious womanizer;

outside of opera he's
usually known by his Spanish name, Don Juan.
This lively piece is nicknamed the "Champagne Aria."

11 - The "elixir of love" makes reference to another well-known opera that hinges on a love
potion: Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.

21 - If you ever wondered what the initials "VALIS" stand for, listen closely.

22 - Duchess orders room service.

She seduces the waiter. There's a clever musical
portrayal of intercourse, and then she goes into a coughing fit.

25 - This 2004 opera is based on the well-known children's book.

Mixxer, you got me sold. I think I can get this made. It has certainly secured a spot in the original soundtracksexhibit.

Talk about an Old School party mix! Not a big opera buff but this looks really intriguing.

I'm not too buff with the opera either but I'd put a tenner on this one. I'm clicking here!

This is crazy (in the best way) and incredibly creative. I'd like to hear this one sometime, as my classical knowledge (comparatively speaking) is nil.

I may not be very familiar with the works you describe here, but I recognize the creativity and intelligence behind this mix. You're blazing your own trail here on Art of the Mix.

Amazing. Great job in combining so many different scenes into a compilation resembling a new musical narrative. Thanks for the sampler!

Ohh, the kazoo - what would Puccini have done with it, we ask ourselves...

Fantastic mix, Ed. I have to admit that, while I of course had no doubt that this would be great overall, I did expect to be at least tempted to reach for the "skip" button during a few songs, but none of that happened - thoroughly enjoyable listen throughout. I especially enjoyed the bars/taverns and banquets/balls sections, with my favourite track (after one and a half listens, and leaving aside those I was already familiar with, esp. Don Giovanni and Nixon in China) probably being the Puccini. "Most fun" awards go to Portman and Sullivan, the strongest "oh, so that's where that song comes from" moment was provided by Wagner, and the one that surprised me the most in a expected-to-hate-it-but-actually-found-it-really-sweet-and-entertaining kind of way was the Johann Strau¯ II track. I'm quite impressed with how well you made this all flow, too. Great work!
