Comment:

Looking at a period that was 13 years after the birth of my father and 13 years before I was conceived. And all of these songs peaked (the month and day are given for that date just before the chart number) before we entered World War II. The picture is of the Army's 4th Infantry Band, Anchorage, 1941. The mix is available for download (just over 90meg in size) by clicking the link situated on the first song title (the link is good for 25 downloads or 7 days; whichever comes first).

Incredible! glad you include the songs' peak chart position. it's interesting to see obscure songs that were #1 hits (how many of us can hum Amapola?), whereas songs that have (sort-of) stuck around, like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy peaked at only #15. that stuff fascinates me. and why is it that instrumental songs rarely make the charts nowadays? anyway, this is great stuff - thanks.

1941 - what a year. Make sure joey de vivre sees this one. And totally well annotated, in best Retro Joe style. Nice.

Hey, didn't Pearl Harbour & the Explosions have a big hit that year?
I'm taking a trip in your time machine right now, RJ, & it's a swinging smooth ride!

A very fine collection you have here. My stepdad used to drum with some of these cats and this download will be making its way onto disc and presented to him with pleasure. Thanks!
