Comment:

This summer-long series is dedicated to everyone at AOTM, but to a few mixers in particular. The NLA was born out of both a lark and an attempt to diversify listening habits and mixing formulae. The mixers named in this series are those who continue to inspire us, who've helped us abandon (somewhat) our musical prejudices and open our ears to a multitude of new sounds. We hope this series is a two-way street, of course, and that these mixes have a similar affect on their subjects, inspiring THEM to keep up their excellent mixing. Future subjects (in the works): Dom1, jonpoi, musicgnome, Nick Falivena, g.a.b. l@bs, Luke79, jenergy, joey de vivre, Orchid, Dead Man, Rob Conroy and lanhamyodel. There will no doubt be others, too. Enjoy.

Excellent lookin' series fellers (I've burnt a copy and placed it alongside my curb). This might be one I have to re-burn with track breaks...

Wow! 16 minutes til the whistle blows, I slide down the brontasaurus and race home so I can listen to this! This series looks quite auspicious, though I'd skip that musicgnome character. What an ass&*le!!!!That L'Orchestre De Contrebasses track has got me salivating.

This looks tremendous. I can't wait to listen to it. Curtis is certainly worth your admiration and tribute... And wow, thanks for the positive remark. I certainly didn't expect such recognition...

A worthy recipient of the tribute accolade. This looks suitably off the wall.

Great tribute to a fantastic contributor. Ecclectic and mysterious like I thought when I saw the title of this mix! Can't wait to give this a listen.

Nice! As always, of course, I would expect no less, and a most worthy party to be pointing out. Now...Can someone tell me how to get that mix thingy to work?

No better mixer to start the series than with Curtis. Originally I used to look at his mixes with a blank face but since he started posting links I've been introduced to much wonderment via his work. I must admit I assumed Curtis ( along with g.a.b ) was part of your set up, but I now realise I must be wrong. As dedicating a mix to yourself would surely be a tad OTT would it not?

He not only burns, he smokes. Great lookin' mix. (BTW, like Sammy, I assumed CB was one of the NLA culprits.)

Quite an appropiate tribute to the curb ruiner since I'm comletely clueless until I hear the masterfully sequenced mix.

Count me in amongst those who thought Curtis was part of the NLO. Anyways, like everybody else said, a most worthy recipient of this honor. I can't even begin to count the number of artists I've been turned on to through Curtis' mixes.

This is great; exceptionally sequenced, and it does well to capture the jazzier side of the Burnsian mix tradition. Nice work!

Wow...let me begin by saying that I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of the New Leif Allstars. Not opposed to membership you see, it's just that what they require you to do to small animals as a part of the initiation is, well, I'm just not ready for that. While one can debate the worthiness of the dedicatee, there's no debating the merits of this mix. 'Tis a flower that more fully blossoms with each listen. Poetry even. The pacing is splendid and there's enough bass and accordion to keep any right thinking music fan happy (L'Orchestre de Contrebasses -> Klucevsek -> Wadada Leo Smith brought tears of joy to my eyes). In short, though undeserving, I am humbled and honored. I can only hope that my contributions to this grand mixing dialog honors the quality of this mix and the spirit of this site. Thank you.P.S. Crimson Jazz Trio? How cool is that?!

Excellent tribute. Now if you could just get him to stop ruining curbs....
