It Was Warm Then,
Even Just Before the Dawn
(The Summer & Fall of 1966)
Comment:
Music from the last half of 1966. For those interested, a file of the mix (160kbps/91.2megs big) is available by clicking on the first song title link. The most surprising track on the mix is #13 (that it didn't do better on the charts than #50). Some songs that didn't make the cut:Mr. Dieingly Sad by the Critters, Wouldn't it Be Nice by The Beach Boys, Last Train to Clarksville by The Monkees, Paperback Writer by The Beatles, Where Were You When I needed You by The Grass Roots, and East West by Herman's Hermits.
The pic is of a sculpture of an image created by Robert Indiana (first appeared on a Christmas card for the Museum of Modern Art in 1964).

Feedback:
Really nice collection of tracks and especially like the whole second half, from about 16 to 28. Looking forward to the download! :D
This kinda stuff goes great with sunshine. Well assembled.
Lovely stuff. A billion thanks for the download.
Particularly taken with track1 4: I've always loved Flamingo & I,m going thru a bit of a might 'Erb phase at the moment (as per my Metaphysical mis). But's what with the Sleigh bells??!> Santa in Tijuana?? The mind boggles!

An amazing six months.
Stellar stuff here -- love your time warp mixes.
Always loved Junior Walker.
A lot of utter classics on her along with some suprises! Looks great to me.
I "love" this mix! So many classics reunited at last.
I've heard they even had "Warm San Franciscan Nights" back then, which seems like global warming in reverse, doesn't it?
Another fun trip in the RetroJoe retro-rocket!

Love -- indeed. In particular, that Elgins track gets me every time.
Can't believe I missed this, another Classic of Classics
Having such fun looking at your earlier mixes. There is this guy, Hal Lifson, who insists that 1966 was the Best Year Ever for popular music. He has a couple of compilation disks on sale at Amazon.com. You say 1967 is YOUR special year. Everyone has a certain moment that feels just right in music. And WMEX used to rock, as I recall. I listened to WBCN for many years.
