Comment:

As with the esteemed Mr. Conroy (and no doubt others), I saw the (long overdue) reissued Talking Heads discs (with some tremendous remastering) as a fine excuse to rework (and expand) my old Talking Heads mix. Having finally picked up their entire remastered catalog (including their inferior final 2 albums, True Stories and Naked, neither of which I enjoy any more now than I did when they originally came out), I'm able to do the band justice.
Unlike Rob, however, I did want to go beyond their core albums and include cuts from those final two (plus the preceding Little Creatures, which is half good, half forgettable). Which meant, of course, cutting some essential tracks from the early years. I wanted this to be primarily an overview of their studio work, otherwise I would have included far more from their fantastic live album The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads (which I prefer to the better-known Stop Making Sense, and may be one of my favorite live albums ever).

Nice anthology. I distinctly remember a Time Magazine review of Stop Making Sense (the Movie) stating "Mr. Byrne is not of this planet!" Couldn't have thought of a better reason to see it.

Very similar to my 2-disc comp, so of course I love this. ;-) And you picked most of my favorites from those last couple of albums. I agree with your assessment of Little Creatures, btw.

Outta this world! Talking Heads used to be one of ny favorite bands, right around the time Speaking in Tongues came out (I even got the vinyl version with the Rauschenberg cover, thinking it would be worth a fortune on day. Alas, it's not -- but I digress). I know it's difficult to reduce their catalog to 38 songs, but you've done an excellent job.
