Way Back When (1934-36) Featuring: The Boswell Sisters, Fats Waller, Benny Goodman, & Tommy Dorsey
Comment:
There is a link on the first song title that goes to a download of this mix (80kbps mono, 47megs in size). It will be available for the next seven days. Songs that didn't make the cut: For the year of 1934: Freddy Martin - I Saw Stars (would have gone between tracks 3 & 4 if I had more time on a CD), Ray Noble - Old Spinning Wheel, Boswell Sisters - Why Don't You Practice What You Preach; For the year of 1935: Benny Goodman - Body & Soul, Guy Lombardo - Red Sails in the Sunset, Fats Waller - Honeysuckle Rose, Xavier Cugat - Begin the Beguine; and for the year of 1936: Benny Goodman - These Foolish Things Remind Me of You, Bing Crosby - Pennies from Heaven, Tommy Dorsey - The Music Goes Round & Round, and Tommy Dorsey - Star Dust.
Feedback:
Very nice R.J. Keep on swingin'
Great Stuff! Your cut list would be a great start for a second disc
Thanks for making these mixes from different musical eras and thus making this site a more diverse place. I'm looking forward to listening to this and finding out how many tunes sound familiar.
Very nice.
Joe, your retro-rockest are really firing now!
You know I think Fats & the Boswells are tops, & Benny was a good man too. I guess the mid-30's were tough to live through for a lot of folks, but didn't they have some great music to keep them going!
Be seeing you back in the 30's . . .
