Comment:
I did 77mix a couple of years ago, that includes all the great punk, new wave, reggae and some disco I really love from back then but I got to admit that when I was a 14 year old punk I listen to music like this too, You can call it guilty pleasures, mainstream or whatever but infact is that the last years I have listen more to Fleetwood mac then Sex pistols, maybe I'm getting really old or just softFeedback:
Plenty of room for both the Sex Pistols and Fleetwood Mac in this world. Plenty of great tracks on this and some I didn't like then or now.
Including Supertramp is just a tiny little bit too much for my humble taste, but the rest of it is downright superb. Herbie Hancock's "I Thought It Was You" (is that the album or single version?) ranks quite high on the list of my favorite recordings of all time.
it's hard to please everyone (including me) with a year like '77, when all different types of music were being fused & exploding onto the scene. though i can't stand bands like steely dan, fleetwood mac, ABBA or anything past rod stewart's first five albums (which were all classics), it's hard to go wrong with cuts from marvin gaye, al green & neil young. whether i like them individually or not though, you've got a good mix of different styles going here, & in that sense, you succeed. good job.
Return of the Mac. I can dig it baby.
Nice one p...that 10cc (!) and Brothers Johnson, among many others here, makes it look like an enjoyable romp in a time machine...
Love the Al Stewart, but some of these guys, imo, were past their prime by then, like ELO, Supertramp, Rod Stewart, and CSY. I think the Steve Miller was 76, not 77.
Hmmmm....remember 77 well, funny, the local station played Fly Like an Eagle and the Brother's Johnson tune EVERY DAY at exactly 12:00. Lot's of fond memories here.
Fantastic opening couplet. Peg's an all time fave, and the 14-16 stretch is wonderful. Great mix Peter.
funny! I guess many of us were 14 year old punks at one stage and I guess we would all listen to this too . . . . not sure if everybody would be as brave as you and admit to some of it, however.Nice job and we need more guilty pleasures around these parts!
Wow, nothing wrong with Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Steely Dan, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield and those particular Supertramp and Brothers Johnson songs...
Can't go wrong with Like A Hurricane.
Yeah, I too listened to this stuff in 1977. (Actually I wasn't cool enough to know about Al Green!) I didn't catch on to Punk & New Wave until '79. Now I'm old & soft, just like you! ;)
Absolutely lovely - and I'm sure it's possible to satisfy both Sex Pistols and Fleetwood Mac tastes! (I do really like that FM pick, incidentally - and the 10CC).
Not all of this was my cup of tea in '77 (Rod Stewart? Ouch), but I was definitely diggin' those songs by Supertramp, Gaye, Fleetwood Mac, ELO and the Brothers Johnson on my portable AM radio.
Toss up on which I enjoy more.
This is heavenly! I love the 4-9 stretch especially.
Love that soul vibe near the end.
Great stuff P. Give me 'Go Your Own Way' over 'God Save the Queen' always!
77 was an all around great year for music as this mix shows.
