Comment:

This seems to be the summer of the Alternating DJ here at Art of the Mix, so we thought we'd try this out to see if it'd work. Wanna play?

So, here's how we envision this working: Listen to the first track by clicking on the yousendit.com link, then upload your response (again, via yousendit.com) and send us the url (with album/year info and your AOTM handle for crediting purposes). We'll fill in the gaps and post the url for the next person to chime in. In the comments section, indicate that you've responded to/are in the process of responding to the last selection with your choice, so as not to create overlap. This has a huge potential for backfiring, but we'll give it a test run. Cross your fingers, folks. Oh, and have fun. Where credit is due: byzantine pioneered this idea (at least in recent memory) with his (B)ring(Y)our(O)wn(S)ong mixes. But how far the site has come in adopting the available technology in just a year! [Except Rob C., that is ; ). ]

Cool, I'll take a stab at track number 2. Not really going for a particular theme or concept.. just picked a song I have liked for a while and was having a hard time finding a way to use it on one of my own mixes!

Not quite sure why Salman1's file downloaded as a "document," but we added a ".mp3" after it instead and -- voila! -- it transformed into an mp3 file. Hope this works for everyone. Ah, the mysteries of modern technology, eh? Cheers, Salman, for starting the musical ball rolling!

Okay, I'll take the third spot.

Make it snappy, lo-fi. You swooped in just as I was uploading my choice for track 3, and if you don't produce within 2 hours, I'm taking your spot. Comprende?

That was fast. Okay, after listening to the first three I've decided track 4 will be "Head-Hunters" by Marlin Wallace and the Corillions (from 1981), who you can read about here.

Sorry, Orchid -- April 20 beat you to the punch by a matter of minutes. Came thru the back door, as it were. Our fault, not yours. You OK with being 5?

No no, I'll have to go back to the drawing board now, cos I have no idea if my track will work after the Aphrodite Child/Vangelis song, and I must go make dinner now. But I'll try to contribute later on in the mix.

Ah, the perils of the Alt. DJ mix. We'll bump you back to 4, Orchid. No worries. Will make the changes in a wee bit. As it stands, The Four Horsemen is now track 5.

I'll take slot 6. Will email you my selection soon!

Oops ... another gaffe. RetroJoe e-mailed his submission without posting here first. Tsk, tsk! : ) Ah well. We'll await GambleOn's follow on.

Oh god, it's pandemonium! This is quickly degenerating into a rapturous free-for-all. I love it.

Ooops! Sorry about that chief. I just hope I get to keep slot six; the cream song seems to fit rather well me thinks. Was originally looking through Led Zeppelin songs, but then thought of the one by Cream.

Mr. Airplane Man follows Oneida nicely, so I'll take slot #8.

Try www.sendspace.com, Rob. I like the way this mix is panning out so far. Quite eclectic. And a nice transition there, Dead Man!

After Mr.Airplane Man, how about
Shadow of the Season? I feel this Screaming Trees track segues nicely.
Please reserve slot #09 for ya gurl ZoT.

It looks like some one beat me to #9, where I had planned Sonic Yout's CrTme BrvlFe. I only listened to Mr. Airplane Man and found this a fitting follow0up.

Now I have to download the rest of the song to see how it all started out.

Hope you're OK at #10, MM. I think whichever side of Shadow of the Season you're on works. : )

As prophesied, (sign up) glitches abound, but as GambleOn and Orchid suggest, this is going swimmingly (if chaoticaly), all things considered. Great job so far, folks! Keep it up!

True, it fits on both sides of that song. So, I'm ok with it. :)
I was almost tempted to do a stylebreak and put Gotcha!'s Mathilda da Wicked Witch instead.

I tried to play too but YouSendIt just won't take my upload. Wouldn't work for a mix upload either. Hmmm, I'll try again later.

This is mayhem...and I love it!!!
Didn't have time to post a comment earlier (before sending the song selection) so I hope this doesn't cause a problem. But I'm flexible so add my song wherever you'd like.

There, finally caught up. Really nice 11-15 stretch there, folks. Just as a side note, we will be compiling all these into what looks likely to be two mixes. Groove366's track stops us at about the 1 hour mark, which is about the (yousendit.com) size limit when making full mixes. So, shall we stop side one there and let whoever's next kick off Side 2? Let's push this to the 30 song limit, people!

Ah well, interest seems to be waning (unless we get a whack of submissions/slot requests for Side Two). We'll compile a back to back mix of the above for those who are interested. Great stuff all around, folks!

I guess people will start adding songs when a new one is put up. At least I wouldn't mind supplying some more songs to a mix.

Oh, I theoretically have the technology... I just can't get yousendit to cooperate with my computer. ;-) I'm going to try GambleOn's suggestion over the weekend, though... that's if there's a side 2 to be had...

We were thinking of just adding Side 2 to this ... or should we start a fresh mix? Thoughts, folks?

I'm for a fresh new mix as this may not last on the boards much longer for a SIDE DEUX. I smell spammers on the way.
