Comment:
Keyboards! Key-tars! New Wave! Eh...sort of.Designed for a single standard length CD
Anyway, the theme of this mix is "songs with a prominent/memorable keyboard part". I aimed to mix some power pop, new wave, "alternative" to keep the overall sound consistent. Let me know if I succeeded.
Some Track Notes:
1. "Baba O'Riley" - I think most peopel will recognize the song right away from the intro. Featuring analog synths programmed using an EKG reading of Pete Townshend's heartbeat (or something weird like that).
2. The Boomtown Rats - Okay, so it's piano instead of synths, good piano based rock songs have gotten rarer and rarer (with all apologies to Ben Folds)
3. "Get Over It" - So, who doesn't think OK Go are one of the best bands of the past few years? If not, you suck.
4. Berlin - Can't have a keyboard record with these guys
5. Synchronicity II - The synths take a backseat here, but the record just has "that sound" if you know what I mean...
6. "I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams" - is Weezer's best kept secret next to "Teenage Victory Song" which is not appearing in this mix. Vocals by one of the girls from That Dog.
7. "Eponine" - Ozma - maybe sound similar to Weezer, but calling them Weezer clones is a bit unfair. I hear they're back
8. Do I even have to explain this one?
9. "My Favorite Game" - a bit newer than most of the songs here, but I think it fits...
10. "Freedom of Choice" - Because I am sick of "Whip It" being the only DEVO song people know.
11. This is my best friend's girl's mix BTW.
12. This is a mix for everyone, including common people, but not tourists, because everybody hates a tourist ;)
13. "Attack?" Any song that reminds me of playing an 8-bit Nintendo game in like 1989 wins. Flawless victory!
14. I'm tempted to squeeze more '80s into my next mix...
15. Never soon enough
16. ...but he'd better get thee behind me instead...
17. In all seriousness, if you haven't checked out Go Home Productions you are missing on some quality mash-ups - stunning
18. This track is from the soundtrack to "Heavy Metal" and was considered something of a theme song back in my Academy days
19. I had to take a breather, here's your quick rest, it's all entertainment, isn't it?
20. NIN and Michael Jackson: Only Me, Billie Jean. Go find it. It works a lot better than you'd think...
I ought to do a Mash-up Mix Tape...

Feedback:
Nice frivolous approach to this which can only be a good thing. Some great choices. I had one of those bad boys pictured above on which I used to play a note perfect version of West End Girls which I would brilliantly segue into Spagna's Call Me at family get togethers. It was then that my parents realized I wasnt gonna be a poet, a lawyer, or a doctor they knew then i was going to be a... disappointment ;) Anyway Its not about me its about you and youve got a nice mix here amigo. Cheers
nice work! i especially approve of the opener, tracks 3, 6 and very much emphasis on 7. the jam, the smiths, devo... you can't go wrong!
Love the mix. Nice to see I'm not the only one that feels that way about Whip it (check out Now It Can Be Told if you haven't already, DEVO live has to be heard to be beleived.
Cool mix. My specialty used to be the one-finger Yamaha version of the 'Beverly Hills Cop' theme tune
