Comment:
INDIE RECORDS--Rock and Roll itself was born out of independent release. Sun Records, The Beatles first US release (Vee-Jay Records) and the countless garage rock standards were all independent labels. True, these lables were not the incubators of talent that later indie-labels professed to be, these labels like many sought to be the next big recording giant or best---be purchased by them. Thankfully these folks have given us some recorded output that has served as a great joy for many a rock snob. Sadly like the other independent worlds (press and film) the mainstream rapes and subsequently hijacks the idea and sounds and transform them into a hallow imitation. The tape represents some of the more influential recordings issued on independent labels. The ()follwoing the songs is the label info.
Feedback:
this is one HELL of a mix. the inclusion of 'little johnny jewel' is delicious. it's wonderful, the song choices aren't the obvious ones (hallelujah!). my one small gripe is that both K and Dischord weren't represented. but no big fizz, you know, because this tape is like creamy chocolate.
Yes, Where is K, Dischord, Alternative Tentacles, Bomp, Dischord, Sugarhill, Chiswick, Ralph,Ace OF Hearts and so on..I feel bad not including any Guided By Voices or The Leaving Trains or Palace Brothers, not to mention Half Japanese and countless others. IT was tough.
This is also great. You wouldn't happen to have The First Annual Report, D.O.A.: The Third and Final Report, or 20 Jazz Funk Greats by the Gristle, would you?
