Comment:

Not exactly an essential mix, as you can get almost all the Billy Bragg you could ever want on the fine Must I Paint You A Picture anthology of a few years back. Still, having picked up a few of the new remasters (most notably Talking To The Taxman About Poetry, a personal fave), figured I'd try my hand at a single-cd mix. Like Rob Conroy did earlier this spring, I stuck largely to his earlier work, though I did take a few of his later, more fully-realized pieces and mix them all together for a bit of variety. Though I'm not a huge BB fan, the first two songs on this mix are among my favorite songs ever, and the rest is more than adequate for my needs.

This looks cool--not all that substantially different from my own take on this, so of course I'll back it up. ;-)

I fully echo your sentiments about Waiting For the Great Leap Forwards - a brilliant track. This is a really nice collection with choice cuts - I do find that I can end up skipping a lot of tracks if I just sit down and try to listen to one of his albums, and this does pick out what, imho, are the best representations of what he can do (e.g.Accident Waiting To Happen; A New England; the stuff with Wilco.) Also, over here of late he's been popping up on TV and radio politics shows all over the place. Interesting. Great collection!
