Comment:
I've been listening to a lot of these guys these days thanks to a recent reappraisal sparked by That Girl (TM), so it was with great pleasure that I compiled my favorite 80 minutes from Gibby & Co's "classic" indie period (Alternative Tentacles and Touch & Go, respectively). Pure anarchic (if occasionally inconsistent) goodness. Last tracks cut: "The Colored F.B.I. Guy," "American Woman," "Ricky," "Kuntz," "Woly Boly" and "Helicopter."Feedback:
Nice.... 10, 11, & 13 rank very highly in my book.
Good band and mix.
not real familiar w/ their music, but I've got a good gut feeling about this one. I love their cover of "Hurdy Gurdy Man."
what's not to like here!
I would LOVE to hear this.
I like what little I know on here Rob. They are a band I never fully embraced and only have a couple of records. I guess we should organize a trade pretty soon so I can comment properly.
Ah nuts!!! that was Barry by the way!
Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah! You included pretty much all the songs I would have put on - Lady Sniff is one of the most perfect songs ever written. Yay to "That Girl" for bringing out the best in our Rob!
Once again, I can't argue with any of your picks, Rob. I suspect much of the Surfers' music from this period falls under "you had to be there" as they were a wild-ass live act who's records never quite lived up to the concert experience. Too bad they had the falling out with T&G records. Woulda been a blast to see some car crash films, thunderous twin drumming and Gibby with a head fulla clothspins again.
had one of their albums and got rid of it...but it might have been a bad one or i was in one of those moods when i bin discs i don't listen to...so i can't really comment on this.
I'm digging the quaaludesAnd surfing's a blastBut I just saw an X-rayOf a monkey passing gas.
That Girl who keeps ghostwriting your mixes has impeccable taste... now quit biting off my ass!!!
I know little of theirs. Their only 'hit' single over here was the distinctly average and very beck-esque 'Pepper'. Having said that I know Lady Sniff, Sweet Loaf, Human Cannonball and a few others and they're pretty cool. Maybe I will indulge in a bit more of their stuff in future ( dreadful name for a band tho IMO)
Great. That was the precise period when I was into 'em, and you hit most my faves here. I've never replaced my old vinyl with cd's, though (as I pretty much liked a couple songs per album and couldn't really listen to the rest). "Hey" was a particular favorite.
My ignorance of this musical group is profound. I am unable to make a meaningful comment. So there you have it, another true confession, Thanks for that.
Fuck yeah, dude!! Yet another stellar single artist mix. Been listening to a LOT of "Hairway To Steven" lately.
Your music is horrible and your song names are ridiculous and redundant. You all wiil burn in hell for all eternity if you do not seek guidence in the Lord! :)
