Comment:
Makeba & Maskela aside, these are versions of africa from everywhere but Africa.Enjoy. Image: Josephine Baker & her pet lepard.

Feedback:
Super cool and eclectic, as always.
Wonderful songs, wonderful mix. As always! But I'm curious... why does the word jungle automatically make a something a "version of Africa"? Don't jungles and apes and monkeys exist on other continents? Asia for example? Oh, and I just shared a zebra fizz on the rocks with my anthropology professor, and he convinced me there haven't been tigers in Africa for over a million years (except in zoos, of course). But he was probably just trying to get into my leopard-print pants. Love the cover. And your taste in music.
yes orchid you are absolutely correct...I shared the same concerns as you when dealing with those jungle tracks but I'm fairly certain most of the artists of African descent are referring to the Africa jungle ... jive elephant for instance comes from Hatari (set in Africa)...references...Ape Shuffle (Planet Of The Apes) I know was actually set in the USA, however the inference of funky beats from Mr. Schifrin is to my ears unmistakedly African...white witch doctor was set in the congo...simba is from Denny's Afrodesia album...The Cramps, Hank Mizell I would also suggest are African...if anyone knows any difference please let me know.
This mix requires no comment from me. It's clearly excellent in all aspects. However, I detect a note of "oh-dearie-me" and "won't-somebody-please-think-of-the...insert ethnic/social/gender/sexual orientation/religious group of choice here" about Orchid's comment in particular. What is the point? Must we inspect and cleanse every word we utter? Your reply was well done, apart from the "I shared the same concerns as you" part.Of course there are jungles in places other than Africa. Most of us are reasonably sentient and certainly capable of knowing that "jungle" is not just another name for Africa. We are all able to comprehend context. Heaven forbid that we may be "poisoned" by harmless generalization or truly unimportant inaccuracies. There is much prejudice and misunderstanding in our world. If we keep poking everyone with this particular stick, they're just going to get pissed off - oh wait, it's already too late.Ah, whatever. You can accuse me of something if you wish, just be sure you know what it is.Well done, Orchid, you got a result.
My god, Cher can click? That woman knows no bounds. Beautifully conceived project, Dom.
ahh, the soundtrack for a Martin Denny family reunion. very nice.
go jungle go crazy go ape go
Wow, p the swede's english is improving by leaps and bounds! So many cool artists on here, especially Rufus Thomas.
Looks great again Dom. I want a pet leopard!
Sweet and sexy, just like Miss Baker. I'd offer Ubangi Stomp and Skokiaan for the follow-up (which I hope you'll do!)
Excellent mix! Love that kooky 'Ape Shuffle' by Lalo Schifrin!
Nice collection of jungle boogie...
You're posting some great stuff at the moment. Artfully put together, indeed.
crikey, Daktari! Where's Clarence?Louis Prima, The Cramps and my mate Lee . . . . looks like a great fun mix with loads of talking points . . . I cannot condone having a pet lepard (sic) though . . .
talking of jungle boogie?........... no, this looks abso-brilliant !!! i have a few of the tunes but would still love to swap?
only one question- i tried to find out some stuff about mandingo for my 'world rocks' comp, i think i had them down as australian based on some s**** at the time? i remember being unsure at the time?

This looks great; love the Louis Prima inclusion - FUNNY!
"Jungle", to me, immediately brings to mind the forestry of the South American continent first.., but it wasn't always that way. Lots of books have made it that way. Lots of books. The two South American inclusions here definitely are not about their native jungles. At any rate, can't say why there'd be any exception-taking at title or connotations with this. Good music is good music. This is good music. (And I'm of the generation who actually saw "Daktari", the televised show.)
looks top notch. I wonder if anything is available from that early 60's movie with Bob Hope - Call Me Bwana.
Zesty.
Would love to have this in my spice cabinet. Exceptional mix, once again.Like the deaf leopard on the cover too
Great music, great picture. I want a leopard.
This SPICE racks up major points with this mixer.Wonderful.
