Comment:
Whenever I'm discussing the merits of mixes on CDR vs. cassette there's one argument in the cassette mix's favor that always gets me. With a CDR you can jump from track to track, breaking up the continuity of the mix, but with a cassette you have to listen to the entire thing the way the mixer intended. I thought I'd experiment with this idea by recreating some favorite cassette mixes on disc. This one is a mix created by Thurston Moore that appeared in the Winter, 2001 volume of MOJO Collections. I dig this one for having many hardcore and post-punk favorites and for turning me onto future faves Judee Sill, Jackson C. Frank and Brigitte Fontaine. Some bizarre stylistic jumps, but quite enjoyable.R2R1 - Youth CultureFeedback:
Interesting....very, very interesting. GREAT stuff.
Indeed.
This looks pretty fucking rad. Thanks for the links.
Great fuckin' stuff. God, there are no words for how awesome that Swell Maps song is.
That IS a good argument-always was, in favor of the much & oft-maligned cassette.
Have you forgotten the fast forward button? But of course that would be entirely unnecessary with this gem. Nice one, Thurston. You turn us on to everything!
Oh yes
