Comment:

I wanted to create a dichotomy between the first and second half, hence the breezy dance rock in tracks 2-9, the bit-more-serious in-between transitions in tracks 10-17, and then the drawn-out, downright moody ambience of tracks 18-27 (most of which are at least 6 minutes long). It wasn't an exact science or anything, but since I often dwell on the happy/sad, light/dark contrasts in the mixes I make, I thought I'd just go ahead and completely separate them this time to see how it sounds. Unfortunately for the effect, I started becoming too interested in the loftier second half, so I put that Hold Steady song up front as a way of foreshadowing the later tone, or bridging the gap. Plus it made a perfect lead-off song on the actual album, so I basically just ripped off their genius. Sorry.

Anyway, I don't expect any of that to be taken very seriously. At heart I still just combined a bunch of beloved songs together that I hadn't yet mixed, so I can enjoy them in the car or when I don't feel like sorting through an entire library of music. But there is a point to its weird blend of tones, for whatever that's worth.

Love that Lily Allen song. Nice to see Anathallo on a mix. Great Wrens pick. 20-23 looks great to me.
