Comment:
This tape was put together with apocalypse in mind. My intention was for all of the songs opening the tape to deal with mortal issues, then doubting the world and the world coming to a subsequent end by the conclusion of Side A (Of Mortal Decline). At the beginning of Side B (Soul Does Transcend), there is a bit of sadness and doubt in this new place. It is empty and new, despite whatever it may physically hold, just as kindergarten is for the quiet child who has never before been to school. Soon, however, the songs point in a direction of courage to explore and understanding (as with Don't Fear the Reaper and Death to Birth).Eventually we come to Moonlight Sonata (that includes passages from Revelation being spoken my grandparents) which turns the tape into this new world entirely, giving the listener time to adapt and settle in.
We close Side B, and thus the entire journey, with two selections by Son of Sam. The first shows a bit of light at the end of the tunnel - suddenly there is observance of the downfall of others instead of destructive introspection; and just as we find that knew perspective, we are left with the mystery that lies in the track Invocation, right before the real journey of this place begins.

Interesting. I've made at least one mix in this vein. What does it say about us that we're contemplating the end of the world?
