Comment:

Okay, maybe just 47... depends how you count Lola.

In any event, this started as a broader project, just looking for odes to various women... but, since about 98% of all rock songs are about women, that didn't narrow it down much. So I opted for songs in which the woman's name was the entirety of the title (with two tiny exceptions, which I felt nonetheless fit ok). Even so, ended up with plenty of songs on the cutting room floor, from the Beatles' "Julia" to the Pernice Brothers' "Judy" and many more. Maybe next time...
Oh, and though I could've spent hours picking some order designed to maximize musical variation, I decided to alphabetize by name... and still ended up with a surprisingly decent flow. Karma, I guess.

Aren't you the clever one? OK, this is pretty cool - maybe I'm jealous :-)

Very nice. Elvis Costello's Alison and Ben Folds Five's Kate are personal favorites. And Julia... maybe for the next volume. Cheers.

there have been plenty of these scattered about in recent months, but none as smashingly done as this one. while i wish you could have fit "julia" by the beatles, there's no way anyone could squabble with what is here -- from elvis costello the the ramones, from the beach boys to the clash, bowie, the pixies, big star... & one of my all-time favorite songs with that NMH track. five stars for this, for sure.

Excellent; I love it - looks like it was a lot of work and it's turned out really nicely. I'm with locovinaigre on the Ben Folds Five and Costello, and the Big Star, Cosmic Rough Riders and Pixies are all great choices too. Well done!

Judy came from O-hi-o. She's a Scientologist.

Very cool, Pop. Haven't heard Marshall Crenshaw in the longest while.

And, was it Karma? Or maybe if you have good songs the sequence doesn't matter as much as we think?

+ 790837890523 points for having not one but two Elvis Costello songs. Dissappointed that it doesn't include Central Deli Band's "Mona", however!!!

But more points again for putting it in alphabetical order, and for including the Pixies. Two thumbs up.

WHOOPS. I feel it is necessary to point out that "Lola" is actually about a man!

Great concept Marc! Didn't Bowie or somebody do a song called Queen Bitch? That could work, no?

I have a list of songs for a mix of the same concept (and the cover art done) but never actually made the mix (story of my mixing life). Veronica, Vallerie, and Barbara Ann were also onmmy list. Even without the unifying theme this mix looks like it would be a solid listen.

Lovely. Lola deserves a mix all to him/herself.
