Comment:
Although I'd love to kid myself and think that this is a definitive exploration of this genre, this mix is comprised of my favorite songs by most of my favorite hip hop bands/artists (okay, Rob Base is not particularly interesting beyond that specific tune but WHAT A SINGLE it is). I'm sure that one could quibble with my characterization of that Tricky song as "hip hop," but it feels close enough to me and the fact that it's a Public Enemy cover bolsters that idea. Title from the pens of Ice Cube and Chuck D, presumably. There might be a volume two...Feedback:
A genre that does get overlooked on this here site. But hip-hop when it's done well can be truly amazing. The final four, the Dizze Track, Roots (who can do know wrong), the genius of tracks 3 & 4... An early MOTW contender for me this..
Unimpeachable picks here, Rob. Gotta love some PE, Wu-Tang,Roots, De La, the list goes on. That Tricky cut is killer , by the way.
Glad you kept the Tricky. Go, white boy!
you seem to've the hit all the right cylinders here -- de la soul, the roots, black star (my personal favorite), wutang, mf doom, public enemy, a tribe called quest, the beastie boys... can't complain, myself. excellent job, rob
took the words right outta my mouth, mista lombardi...
great fav track, 18
I like the look of this. Like the Dizzee song a lot.
Killa! Love the 4-5 and 13-16 runs.
Not my thing (aside from some of the earlier glory days of the Beasties and Public Enemy and the oddly absent Run-DMC), particularly now that my 10-year-old son listens exclusively to rap all day and night (since, like every white Jewish suburban kid, he somehow feels the music speaks to him). But I'm guessing you've culled the genre down to its 80 finest moments, so I may have to add this to my want list.
Really cool. I love a bit of (good) hip-hop, though don't know a lot of people who feel the same, so it's great to see a collection of choice cuts like this. I still love that OutKast pick; well done in including Mr. Rascal too, and The Roots. Please feel free to do a vol. 2!!
An excellent attempt to condense this colossal genre onto one CD.
Pretty fly for a nannyfucker.
So, this is what a nannyfooker looks like. Pimpin' good, Mister Conroy.
nah, not my thing either - i'm just not cool enough to get it. or maybe i just can't for the life o' me find melody to wrap my head around. i'll say this for the genre, though - there's lots of great artist names.
Quite vintage, but no bad thing. Some great choices- bringdamuthafukinrukus!
probably my favorite Tricky song there. quite a few I don't know, but it's a genre worth exploring; I like it quite a bit. where can I click to hear this fooker? ;-)
Lots of favorites here! I'm looking forward to Vol. 2.
a great opener, and I especially dig that 10 to 15 run. very cool introductory package; thanks for sharing it.
Other than the NWA (just don't dig them) and the MF Doom and Tricky (don't know the cuts) these are just about all personal faves. I think our hip-hop tastes are pretty similar. Makes me want to finally commit to a hip-hop mix.
Looks a treat.
Great selections throughout.
the public enemy+ wu tang combo = brillaint "bring" one two punch. several ill tracks, to be sure.
