Caravanities
Comment:
I like to do these from time to time, and almost any Ellington classic has a melody interesting and catchy enough to withstand repeated listening, especially with covers as diverse as some of these. I uploaded this for anyone interested, but I doubt there'll be many takers. However, a Scout's-honour prize will be awarded to anyone who listens to all these back to back! Also, as I like to build on these kinds of mixes and collect more versions, I would be very grateful to anyone with other versions of the Ellington number in their collections.
Feedback:
I know nothing here! The only tracks I have named Caravan are by Blur, The Inspiral Carpets, Arthur Lyman & The Sheiks Men.Then of course there's Caravan of Love, or World Party's 'You're a Hurricaine, I'm a Caravan'...
A fantastic tune for the one song treatment. also Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath...
A Caravan mix was a passing fancy of mine not so long ago & never progressed any further. . This looks well interesting. Other than Duke & Monk, I don't know any of these. What I do have, though, are versions by The Checkmates (early 60s UK instro combo); Chucho Valdes; John Buzon Trio; Michel Petrucciani & Pucho & his Latin Soul Bros.
Let me know if you're interested.

Usually not my cup o' tea, but considering the mixer and material...I am game.
Wonderful! I've always liked Caravan so may just get to the end of this :)I don't have it but there's an excellent version on Rabih Abou-Khalil's Roots & Sprouts album.
Nice one, 'Leif'. I've also heard a nice version by Michel Camilo, off Rendezvous, and could swear I have a copy - but just took a quick peek & drew up empty.
Great mix. Can't resist adding Santana's 'Eternal Caravan Of Reincarnation to the list. Gotta go don't wanna get caught behind you!
Yes, this is a good tune, and I have no problem listening to a whole mix of cover versions. I'll send you some more, a nice one by the Mills Brothers among them.
I'll join this 'van and add Ella Fitzgerald if you're interested...
Great tune.... I can add James Brown, Dr. John and possibly Nat King Cole versions and Van Morrison has a different song by that name.
Very cool collection.
...in a way this makes me wanna' hear "Midnight At The Oasis". Inexplicable.
Excellent.
Jimi Tenor covered this on his Intervision album
