Comment:

U2 has arguably been one of the most influential bands since the Beatles. They've consistently drawn followers from across the world and their fan base just keeps on growing. These days, they seem unstoppable. Though it takes each member of the band to make U2 work, much of U2's success has to do with the drive and charisma of the band's leader, Bono. What many people do not realize is that U2 has been spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world with the message underlying their music---a message that is subtle, and not preachy, but a message that has been present all along. Because U2, and the band's leader have been so widely received by such a diverse audience, their message and their example is one that will have an impact on the world for years to come.

Bono has met with Washington officials, including the president, on a number of occasions, as he has with world leaders and he has always commanded their respect. He has influenced governments across the world to forgive the debts of poor countries, and open their purse strings to some of the world's most noble causes, such as fighting poverty and addressing the immense health crisis in Africa. It is no wonder that Bono was named one of three Persons of the Year named by Time magazine last year. He has had an incredible impact on the world stage and I believe that his legacy has only begun to take shape.

Though he is certainly far from being perfect, his message of hope, and the positive vibes he has sent out have made the world a happier place to live. His determination to ameliorate human suffering across the world puts him in the same league as people like Mother Theresa.

Bono's always been a man with a plan, and when it comes to fighting AIDS in Africa, I've found Bono's plan to be better than any I've seen yet. It's a program called RED and it has to do with merchants banding together to relieve the immense suffering of the people of Africa---suffering that is so vast that it makes all of the problems in the United States pale in comparison. RED is a color that has come to stand for many things, but in this case, it stands for an outpouring of compassion. If you're BLUE about you, maybe you have the right too, but I'd recommend a change of color. I'd recommend adding a little RED. Put on your rose-colored glasses and make the world a brighter place for the people of Africa to live.
