Comment:
thanks to luci (my future step daughter) for lilly allen. Note: I've had a few e-mails recently requesting where folk might download certain tracks - as I have never downloaded or uploaded I'm afraid I do not know but in order to make life easier I've included the album titles. My opinion of downloads have in the past been misinterpreted by some mixers as being snobby. I do not mean to be snobby. I just like to have the CD or LP in my hands. It's old fashioned I know. I can however see the desire to download 1 great track from an album of crap. The dates refer to the track release and not the album. Film titles or original artists where applicable appear in parenthesis after the track title. Thanks to Musicgnome from whom I stole the layout. Enjoy!Feedback:
looks great, Dom. I'm old fashioned too. most of my stuff comes from LPs, some from CDs. I've never purchased music files on the web. but there are devices now-a-days that allow you to create mp3s from vinyl LP tracks. it takes time and can be a pain, but it's a great way to share fantastic--but obscure music, of which you seem to have plenty.
Looks wonderful!
To embrace the download is to free oneself from the material trappings of music in order to focus on its most important purpose: the beautiful sounds. But I miss the old days, too. (and I miss your old format).
Christ on a bike, where do I start? Well great opener. Fine track from one of my favourite compilations of this year (Fuzzy Felt Folk). Awesom broadcast tune. One of my favourite Prefab Sprout tracks. And probably one of my favourite songs of all time ever (Lou Christie). And that's just side one! phew..
Great mix. I've just started dipping my feet in the downloading revolution for much the same reasons that you listed above...
Yes, yes, yes.
I'll take it anyway I can get it. But, certain items REQUIRE holding in one's own hand, imho. Certain boxsets lose their impact via download as it is the overall packaging, liner notes, artwork, photos and extras (i.e. the Motown Singles Boxset Series) which would not be the same if only had by download.Btw, I would love to be your neighbor, as to hear these tunes would be amazing. Oh, and my neighbors suck.
any mix that includes World column and public image are great in my book
you never fail to amaze me ... old fashioned or not. come to pittsburgh, we've got a vinyl store you'll love.
The opening's a zinger and it just keeps going from there. You really do come up with some fantastic combinations - like that Pil -> Prefab Sprout bit. I do agree with you about holding stuff in your hands by the way - hearing the music always comes first, of course, but it's about the complete package, as it were, as well!
Excellent mix and presentation as ever, Dom. I too love to fondle the CD -- though you may hang onto your cassettes -- hey if you stick a 2HB pencil into one of the spools you can spin that sucker round and round for ages -- what joy! The thing about the CDs is, if the mixer don't offer them up for trade, and you don't have access to all the tracks -- well, well -- waddya gonna do? So go on, Dom, upload 'em -- then surely many virgins will await your arrival in heaven. Hang on, that last sentence -- you know -- the one about the virgins -- might easily be misconstrued -- bloody hell, it's a minefield -- oops, that too might be etc. etc.I give up, Dom; I just hope you don't.
I'm not giving up hope that one day I'll hear one of these great mixes!
