Comment:
I usually avoid putting songs in a mix that are 6+ minutes as they tend to take the thing over. so now here's a mix dedicated to some of my favorites of those longer songs, with just a few short ones for contrast. the 'mixed genres' here are R&B, funk, rock, jazz and blues.listen to side one. listen to side two.

Feedback:
A great line up.
Well now, the exact same idea struck me just yesterday when I was listening to a new 7 plus minutes favourite that I really need to use somehow and I may assemble a mix specifically to air it. Anyway enough about me, Love the Link Wray / Cal Tjader combo. Thanks for the download amigo.
Very nice, love the Kashmere Stage Band, Roy Ayers, Link Wray and Esther Phillips.
Meow!
i normally stick the longer tracks towards the end, as i feel going out on an epic blast is a really strong way to leave an impression -- this is a great idea, though
Looks exceptional. I'm putting it on my "must download" list.
This mix will be echoing the streets of South London in about half an hour.
I agree with Barrydali exactly! Great idea and execution.
This is fantastic--I'm downloading it immediately.
cool stuff and I downloading too
...and I want in!
Have downloaded this and it's really great. Thanks. And it brings up a good point about song length. While, in the past, song length was somewhat limited by the medium upon which it was conveyed and the radio program director's wishes to keep eveything under 3 minutes in order to keep the listeners interest and provide plenty of opportunities for commercial breaks (who isn't aware of the use of MacArthur Park by the DJ when he/she needed to make an extended pit stop) those limits seem to be goingif not gone. I've read that the 80 minute CD was developed as that's how long it takes to play a certain classical peace without interruption, but the expanded time capabilities of compression and greater capacity media, along with subscription radio, seem to be removing those limits. So do we think that the artists will still be releasing CDs, Albums, whatever you want to call them, with a standard of 10 tracks of less than 5 minutes or will we start to see more concert length tracks? Sorry for the rambling, and I guess this belongs on the Blog, but this mix has gotten me thinking more about this issue.
Of course an 80 minute classical piece generally contains about 40 minutes worth of silence ( or near enough ). Anyhow I'm here to talk about the mix. And it's a belter. Thanks for this, and Alex, if I'm ever up your neck of the woods please take me to all your favourite record shops. That'd be heavenly..
Wonderful. Love this. Always been a fan of longer tunes (allows an artist to stretch out ideas, multi-part opuses, trance like rhythms, etc...) All good things.
To make a long story short... good lookin' mix!
To the point by 2old2matter and sammy, during an 80 minute classical piece, how many times does an audience member cough?

Wonderful! Especially like the Peter King & Esther picks. Nowt wrong with long tracks in my book, you can always cut them up - take what you want and leave the rest behind :)
or even loop em an make em longer? anyways, another lover of the longer tunes. looks good to me !
Excellent; I really like this kind of mix actually. The Link Wray choice is extremely nice, as is the Esther Phillips.
I am told, by those who "know", that my habit of sprinkling sugar on a trifle, is disgusting or just plain stupid -- I don't know why this bothers them. I do know that I like trifle and I like to sprinkle sugar upon it. This mix is the sugar on my trifle -- I like it.
Ah man, I missed this! Looks mighty interesting though.
