Comment:
All artists are 98% UK, Sharon Tandy & Manfred Mann are South African. All dates are taken from the sleeve. The Syndicate on Amazon is 1966, on the sleeve it is 1965. I've tried hard in most of these mixes to avoid the obvious - or at least the obvious track. After this British rock would define itself as a seperate entity. No longer would there be such a reliance on blues, Motown etc for padding out both albums and Eps. As we all know, the Uk may have lacked a certain originality & authenticity (The Animals I don't suppose knew where New Orleans was) but they managed to introduce the blues, R'N'B & much of Soul to the white US audience who believed Pat Boone was the author of Ain't That A Shame. The British Invasion begun in 1964 and ended in 1966. This mix is not meant to be a picture of this phenomenon though many of these artists were 'the invaders.' Dusty Springfield was responsible for Motowns invasion of the UK by guesting their acts on her TV Show. I suppose one could say she is the god-mother of Northern Soul Scene which lived & breathed the Motown beat. The Northern Soul scene was made up of Mods & skinheads who remained loyal to the sound when psychedelia took over. Enough of the ramble - enjoy.Feedback:
A boomin' blast of beat group fun!!!
Do you ever sleep mon ami? That's 7 mixes on the board if my sumz is right!! Can't hear Petula without thinking of yer goodself sir. What's not to enjoy here?
Pretty damn cool (as is the other one you posted earlier)! Props for getting Sharon Tandy, LuLu and Sandie Shaw to come to the party.
Tremendous. Keep up the good work.
Yet another gem
Dom, I can not keep up with you. One incredible offering after another. Bravo, dear sir.
you just don't see enough 'them' around. yum
It makes one wanna search for any old scooters laying around having been flung over the cliffs.
