Comment:

All tracks here were released between 1992 - 1997. My Indie Kid years, when I had Baggy Jeans, Long Blond Hair & not a care in the world. Every Monday morning I'd visit my local Independent record store to see what was new, and at 99 pence per 7" single it wasn't uncommon for me to come back with 20 or 30 singles a time. I ended up with a lot of rubbish, but I was happy to sit through them knowing the next one I listen to may be the perfect pop song.
This mix features the cream of the crop. A few bands featured went on to have moderate success ( Delgados, Madder Rose, BMX Bandits ) the Super Furries even released a best of. The majority though disappeared as quickly as they surfaced.
Fancy winning a couple of mixes of your choice. Then here's a quick quiz..
1) Name the 2 cover versions featured here
2) Which band on this mix named themselves after a classic album?
3) One track here received substantial airplay & was tipped as a hit but it's release was pulled due to unfortunate circumstances. Which one?

Be the first to answer all three and mail will appear on your doorstep faster than you can say Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgoger-ychwyndrobwllantysil-iogogogochynygofod (in space) EP.

Excellent looking mix. As for the quiz, my answers are:(1) 2 covers: 20,26 (Stranglers and Jackson 5). (2) Classic album: 19 (Brian Eno). (3) Unfortunate circumstances: 7. Death of Princess Diana.

XYZ, you're so close. Q's 2 & 3 are spot on. Denim's single 'Summer Smash' was due for release on the 1st September 1997, but was pulled due to the events of the proceeding weekend. Warm Jets were named after the Eno classic 'Here Come..'. The Madder Rose is a Jackson 5 cover, but no20 was an original..

The only other potential cover I can see at the moment without resorting to google is 14 (Counting Crows).

There was a hit single called Crush in the 90s by someone whose name I don't recall. I think it may well be too late for your time frame though.

gotta admit most of this is totally over my head, but this certainly looks like an all-around great & well executed idea -- will check this one out

I'm quite a bit in the dark with this one (I was in the midst of discovering and falling in love with jazz in the 90s), but if you're offering up the download to this, I'd love to hear what I missed out on.

It's not Crush either XYZ. You can have some mixes anyhow for being close, but I can see you're after the full house!

I know alarmingly little on here, but it sure looks fantastic - looking forward to listening to this once my computer agrees to either play mp3s without skipping or to burn CDs again. Until then, I have your CDs which arrived today to keep me company - thanks!

Excellent stuff! A seriously wonderful collection of tracks here and I'm looking forward to hearing 'em all together. Love the BMX Bandits and Super Furries - always thought it was a shame Goya Dress weren't bigger! And you've put me in the mood to go and blow all my hard-earned cash round Oldham Street now ;)

I just recently got turned on to Grass-Show, so it's a retro fave of mine for that era. I'm surprised that I don't know a lot of this since those years were prime record buying years and music mag reading years for me.

I should have learned by now, but you know how it is. You think you've got a handle on something or someone, then BAM! -- surprise surprise. Sammy has the gift, of that you may be sure. The beauty part is that he shares his gift with us. Hit-schmit, this is more entertaining than a barrel of assorted entertainers.Lovin' it, Sammy -- cheers.

the whole thing maintains a wonderful energy, then comes to rest on two soft little pillows. those last two are a couple of my favorites here, along w/ the 3-8 stretch and no. 13. it's a little treasure chest you've cultivated here.

Sorry I missed this one. This is that period of time immediately pre-Napster, immediately post-moving overseas and trying to deal with the economic changes in my salary and compact discs. There is indeed a lot of stuff here I would prefer to know about.
