Comment:

Just a lark or a mix, but like most of my whims, it spun out of control and became ludicrously overlong. The organization is sloppy but mannered - I started with song titles about California, since that's where I live, then moved east around the world (although I found pretty much nothing to use for any of Asia, alas), and for the in-between places (that is, aside from series of titles about New York, London, and Ireland, or ones that name a specific location) and a few gimmicks (like the ghost titles and the ocean stuff) I tried to order the tracks by where the artists were from - i.e. Tarkio's from Montana, hence they're situated in the mid-west section, Elliott Smith is Nebraskan hence that, Animal Collective are NY-based so they go there, etc. It's not exact science but I made an effort. And actually, though I formatted it here like a cassette, it was actually about 6 CDs, but I didn't want to waste everyone's time by making a separate entry for each one, so I collected them here as well as I could. The 2nd volume covers the rest of the East Coast then moves across the sea. Even though most of the songs aren't really about traveling or even necessarily the places they cite, it's all music I love, and bound by a thin idea, so I got what I wanted. Bon voyage!
