Comment:
OK here it is folks my 06 year end retrospective. Tunes that have impressed me from this years releases. The opener I know was an 05 release for most of you but out here in France I had to wait until about April I think it was. &the Sparks tune is a red herring in that it's a great tune from a shockingly bad album. Hoping you all have a very Merry Chrimbo & a fab 07.
Feedback:
Looks great! Lots of things here to investigate. I love the cover too.
Nice, Cliff, and like Blasi, it gives me lots to think about checking out.
I have been listening to a lot of these cds, based on your list. The closer would make my list also.
best cover i have ever seen. i'd try the music on that basis alone.
Some good stuff Cliff. I'll need to get mine done.
Some cool stuff here, good sir, although I totally disagree with you about the quality of that Sparks album (I think it's one of their greatest achievements and one of the best albums of the year, hands-down). I also seriously dig the Essex Green and the Flaming Lips tunes/albums, as well, and both the Shack and Six Organs albums were bubbling under contenders for my '06 mix (just posted).
Terrific mon ami. Only the 8-10 run is alien to me but the rest is well selected and well mixed. Oh and yes the cover is the biz too.
As on Mr. Conroys similar mix I have to report I know zilch here but unlike Mr. Conroy's I can only claim to know some of the artists. I shall presume it is a goody.
A great selection. Hooray for 2006! Trains To Brazil may end up being my Number One. And thamks to you for turning me on to Asobi Seksu...
lots here for me to turn myself on to (ahem.) but that track 12 is from one of my favorites of the year.
Right! I've done me homework and I've fed the dog. Let's have a look at this little beauty. Yes, I see, ah, hmm, yeah, now then. Smashing. Many of these tracks have drifted through the old consciousness, Some have even left a deposit -- don't worry, it'll brush off. Oui, Monsieur Connection, this is a nicely comprehensive year-end review. I love that cover art, it reminds of me of my "elektro beat" period. Happy days. So it's a pat on the turntables to you and a Merry Christmas. Wait a minute...I don't have a dog...so who...Ohnotagain!
Very impressive choices here and I've got to agree with you wholeheartedly about the Sparks track. Very glad to see Daniel Wylie here, and the High Dials which everyone's raving about - and deservedly so - and I've recently started to get more into the Guillemots. So, I absolutely approve! :)
I just started to work on mine, and after seeing this, I still need to check out some stuff. Love that Essex Green selection.
Gotta love the Gomez and Midlake tracks. Nice retrospective.
I'm also a big fan of the Sparks disc but otherwise I'm with you.
Bravo on even sitting still long enough to do this FC! A lot here which would make a "Best Of" in my book, too...can't join in on the Sparks debate as they've been rather meaningless to me for so long Pintos and Vegas roamed the Earth...Hail the Loons, Lilys, Essex Green, Shack, Midlake, Flaming Lips! (High Dials would be safe ANY year!)
The Flamming Lips track is my favorite on the album. Nice picks with Midlake and The Essex Green too.
