Comment:
My best of '06 mix. A very, very good year for music--the first time in forever that I'd actually contemplated making this a *double*-disc set. Last track cut: "What's the Altitude?" by Cut Chemist, which I would not have heard if not for the lovely and talented SwankQueen, who has improved my world in so many ways this year. Title from Mr. Waits, whose new triple-disc set has to be heard to be believed.Feedback:
Great mix, dear one. It's a shame about Cut Chemist...
Some top tunes here Rob (btw couldn't see this mix on find a mix had to go into your artofthemix to view it?) Never gonna agree with you re the Sparks album but hey ho we're all individuals with our own preferences.
Very nice and I agree with you on the Waits cd.
Nice work my friend! I hope (and suspect) that you're doing well, as I am. This is a good winter, isn't it?
Some top picks here Rob.
I know absolutely zip here as I no longer keep up with the zeit gesist - I did howver here parts of Jarvis Cockers new disc and found it rather lacking but I did not hear the particular track you have chosen...of course I am familiar with the majority of the artists.
well I gotta sum soon, maybe something from 2,3,5,8,13,14 and 16 will end up there
Looks cool, Rob - and it confirms my belief that this year has been better for providing mix-material than for full albums, as I've heard very few that seemed really consistently great to me. My favourites here are the Boris, Nina Nastasia, and Dylan tracks. I'm not at all proud to admit this in public, but I still haven't heard the Waits set...
Lots of great stuff here and a few I still near to hear. I've been spending some serious time with that awesome Waits set.
Some of my favourite albums of 06 represented here. I love the Albert Hammond Jr, Dylan, Essex Green, Jarvis, Newsom Bonnie Prince efforts from this year. About to check out Mr Waits' 3 disc Monster as well. Seasons Greeings Rob..
tom waits seems to be hijacking a lot of these best of 2006 mix threads.
thanks for your perspective on the year. i tend to lag behind these days so i enjoy expert opinions. thanks!

i happen to be listening to that very dylan song as i comment right now -- nice work here. i wasn't too impressed by 2006 myself, but you've sure stated a great case here -- the waits & yorke are obviously my favorites but this looks appetizing in full for sure
Nice picks from a pretty decent year in music!!
Very cool... yet for the second straight year, only marginal overlap between our mixes. Just getting mine started (I like to cheat and wait to read a few end-of-year articles so I can do some last-minute shopping before finalizing mix), but at this point Essex Green & Flaming Lips are the only things here that made the cut for me. But I'll have to go check some of this out and see if you've changed my mind.
a helpful guide is what this is, as I've always had trouble keeping up with the latest music. but I did listen to disc 1 of the Waits set and can hardly wait to process and move on to disc 2. it's a total overdose and I love it. oh, and congratulations on your heart condition, SwankKing.
This looks fantastic, Rob. But then, you know I'm gonna dig this, right? Still gotta dig into that Waits set and I really need to hear that particular Wooden Wand offshoot project.
Lots of good stuff on here and some that I don't know yet, but judging by the company they keep I will need to check them out.
A thoroughly discerning look back at this year of musical strangeness. If these are the "Rob Conroy" approved choices, well, that'll do for me. I'll get me clipboard and biro. Merry Christmas to you, Rob -- if you do that sort of thing. Woah! hang on ,that Albert Hammon Jr. track took me by surprise. Oh you...
Well, of course the Tom Waits set is my THREE favorite discs of '06 but I have enjoyed most of the tracks alresgy and 2,4,8,11,13,16 and 18 were all due to your recommendations. Merry X-mas.
Some great picks here. Digging 2, 9 and 17 especially.
Great choices all round, Rob, though I still think the Arctic Monkeys robbed (robbed, I tell ya!) Richard Hawley of the Mercury Prize. But as Frenchy says, variety is the spice of life. Great to see the Sir Richard Bishop inclusion there, and, of course, the Tom Waits. I really liked Jarvis Cocker's contribution to the year, and Thom Yorke's too. A very nice conclusion to 2006!
Nice picks here. The 13-19 home-stretch is tops in my books. Mister Conroy, keep feelin' fascination for '07!!!
