Comment:
Perhaps not unlike my somewhat recent Bright Eyes mix, this is a band I've always viewed as more the province of some angst-ridden college girl writing bad poetry in a beat up journal than as something I could see myself getting into. But here we are, huh? Though I'm not a huge fan of the first three albums, which I view as kinda spotty (though with their moments), they totally won me over with 2003's Transatlanticism, an indie rock monster, full of beautiful songs and clever lyrics, with the polish and maturity that had been lacking in earlier work. And last year's Plans, despite the odds, was no less an accomplishment. Not unsurprisingly, this hews largely to their catchier, less dirge-like and more poppy tunes.Feedback:
I think you've pretty much got their best here.
Happy New Year Pop K.

tho i'm pretty much the opposite, loving the first 4 (or 3 1/2)and trying to catch p to the glory of the photo album, this is a kickass overview. woo.
what about the forbidden love EP? that's their best work, in my opinion.
Yeah, valid point... alas, all I have are their proper albums; no ep's, b-sides, etc.
Pretty much spot on overview not withstanding the point fritz1 already made. Only the title track from Trans... I would have to include, but in terms of length and having one foot in the dirge camp I understand it being bumped. 14-16 are three of their very best. Although being a grumpy old so & so I didn't take to Plans. I liked I Will Follow You... well enough but then I read an interview with Gibbard where he said "Its one of the best love songs ever written" and I aint played it since. Happy new year Marc.
Thanks, Barry, and a fine New Year to you as well... incidentally, to borrow a phrase from one Rob Conroy, "I Will Follow You Down" was my last song cut. I like it, despite the cheese factor, and I guess that's a good reason to let songs speak for themselves and for the artists to keep mum.
Yet another group I have yet to sample. If I understand your sleeve notes, these chaps are hustling angst - and pretty bad angst at that. Angst is a dangerous tool even in the mouths of seasoned angsters, so I'm cautious of steeping inside this cab. I detect an obvious division amongst the ranks - never a promising sign for longevity.
I'm not drawn to the chap at the front who wears his hair in the fashion of a Roman Emperor. It's one thing liking Michael Caine and daring to wear a t-shirt the colour of a soiled diaper but flaunting your admiration for men who turned extermination into a spectacle is disturbing to say the least. The skinny swank with hair that 'just falls that way' has either spotted the pizza delivery boy or found an addict looking for an angst fix. I notice on your artist list The Postal Service, presumably they are linked in some way to Death Cab For Cutie. Michael Caine looks the sort of chap who'd name a band Post Service. Another band to investigate.

Yet again I am unable to make a meaningful comment. I have some knowledge of the subject matter; however, Dom1 has knocked me sideways with this instalment of his group picture assessment. Damn his eyes, I've just splurted coffee all over my hideously expensive keyboard. I know that "splurted" is not a proper word, but it fits, so nyah nyah nyah. Oh and Happy New Year Mr. K.
Nice, though the omission of 405 (as well as Photobooth) is a bit surprising. Good to see Exhibition and Kaleidoscope represented though.
Another one of my least favorite bands in recent memory (or rather, least favorite bands that other folks who have similar taste in music to mine seem to champion) compiled by one of my favorite mixers.... Please don't tell me that there's a John Mayer or Dashboard Confessional mix around the corner. ;-)
Hilarious observations by Dom1. Wish I could comment further but I've never heard this band.
