Comment:
1. if you don't agree then you have no ear for talent.2. (Annie Danielewski) I read someone somewhere call her voice "romantic." that it is.
3. see #1. this specific track is from the end of her career when her voice began to deteriorate. alarming and challenging to listen to.
4. (courtney love) alarming and challenging. even yelling on the top of her lungs she's still right on the note. listen to her holler "mine is forever."
5. at 00:53 listen to how she draws out the word "tromboned." sounds just like honey molasses.
6. at 00:24 "what's to use to keep on trying." ps - i must admit her french pronunciation is awful.
7. my friend ryan called her the cowardly lion. i asked him if HE could do that with HIS voice. nuff said.
8. i didn't know joni mitchell, and when i was younger i saw a special on vh1 and watcher her do this song live. just hear 03:40 "we are stardust... we are golden"
9. (angela mcclusky) like billie holiday. such an abrasive voice, so much emotion.
10. shivers down my spine, the way she draws out each "you" when she says "the closer i get to yooooooouuuuu." the vibrato is so quiet and gentle, not like these recent "diva" wannabes coughing up enough vibrato to shake a building. roberta did it with grace and elegance, not trying to overpower the song.
11. (seal henry samuel) i fall in love with him each time i hear his voice. velvet-y smooth. so soft. so sad.
12. (helen adu) i fall in love with her each time i hear her voice. smooth as velvet. so soft. so sad.
13. (kate pierson and cindy wilson) alone each of them has a unique voice. but in a duet their voices are so bizarre, yet awesomely harmonized. not the b-52's best song, but the best showcase of kate and cindy's harmonizing abilities.
14. the royalty of harmonizing. and a big fuck you to everyone who disrespects mama cass by whispering that she died choking on a chicken bone.
15. (alison moyet) she's white. seriously. i promise you. she emotes like the old time jazz singers, but at a different level.
16. (nicolette suwoton) frequently overshadowed by the star power of tracey thorn (who is also a very good singer, dont get me wrong, just not as good as nicolette, in my opinion), she also has an amazing range, able to do quick quiet vibrato correctly. her voice is also comparable to seal and sade. very low.
17. (janis joplin) you almost thought i wasnt going to include her didnt you?
18. a higher voice, but sweetly sounding. i can't get enough of it. hear his entrance at 00:28.
Feedback:
Huh! Interesting analysis. Thought provoking. If I may inquire, what would your thoughts/impressions be for: Bjork, Diamanda Galßs, Lydia Lynch and Carla Bozulich
i'd have to disagree with you on track 4, but it's a nice concept!
have to agree with fritz on #4, but everything else looks really nice.
I love that particular Billie song. She tells it like no other.
