Comment:
"The last time I saw Elvis he was shootin' at a color TV". Title of the mix from the opening line of Neil Young's opening song of the mix. Today is Elvis' birthday so I quickly threw this together tonight. Elvis the King... well maybe the King of Pop Culture. I had to put Chuck Berry in this mix if we're talking about rock & roll. Also a couple of my favorite guitar slingers tearing up Blue Suede Shoes. The King (of Pop Culture) had lots of references in lots of songs so I included some here too and let's not forget the allure of Graceland and the road to Memphis. Also a few covers of Elvis associated songs to fill the CD. All in all a nice birthday party.
Feedback:
yes it was Elvis bithday and David Bowie hit 60 the same day and if I'm not wrong Per Gessle out of Roxette has his birthday on 8th of January as well,
if i were to guess, i'd say this took a century to make -- it sure looks like a labor of love, but thrown together in a day? unbelievable! fantastic on every level, i love it -- & a very happy birthday to the king of rock & roll.
I'm with anthony on this.
Just awesome, as noted below. If you do a sequel, may I humbly suggest Mojo Nixon's "Elvis is Everywhere" and George Jones' "Yabba Dabba Doo," which opens with the line, "Last night I broke the seal on a Jim Beam decanter that looks like Elvis."
Putting this together in an evening was not really that hard. I searched my iTunes for all references to Elvis which brought up a rather large list. Then I googled "songs about Elvis". That took me to Wikipedia which had a list of songs about or referencing Elvis and I was surprised at how many I had. Some I hadn't realized like the Elvis Costello title character looking like Elvis. After that it was a matter of creating a playlist in iTunes and arranging things.
There were lots of songs I didn't use and could probably do a sequel. I had that Mojo Nixon song on vinyl but didn't want to take the time to rip it off the LP. Other songs sometimes didn't go with the flow like Living Colour's "Elvis Is Dead". For something quick and dirty this mix worked out pretty good I think.

Happy birthday, Elvis! Wherever you are.
nicely done, brings to mind "Honeymoon in Vegas" ... "We're the Flying Elvises .... Utah Chapter!"
Way cool. And, there's Wanda Jackson, again! Dig this.
Very cool, good sir.
Wow, great stuff. I was listening to a little Elvis yesterday on conincidence!
He Was The King, He Really Was The King... A fine lookin' mix
Really excellent, a lovely tribute that I'd love to hear some time. Love that Janis Martin pick!

Wonderful job! My sister shares her birthday with the King, and I'd love for her to hear this one (me too).
Wow, Mojo was right, Elvis IS everywhere!
Sometimes I do wish he'd just leave the building already, but on his birthday it's good to get a reminder that he WAS the King.

Another nice one, George. I was gettin' me a coffee today @ the local 7-11 when, from the Check-Out line up front, I heard a familiar "Thankyouverymuch". I craned my head over the stack of cups and, through the steam of the Brewer, saw a blur of sequins, pompador & sunglasses quickly exiting the store. I turned to the women next to me & asked, "Was...that..?"
She looked at me, apparently very annoyed, & said "I still miss him. DonG_Tt be cruel!"

Looks great George. I love that Mott cd. Have a great 07!
Great choices. Never get tired of that John Hiatt record. Just terrific.
yeah, worth remembering . . . one day, I would love to hear that Link Wray pick . . .
