Comment:

Well, this mix was done on the spur of the moment. I had just heard Steve Raglin's recent "Chant" mix and I made up my mind to do a period piece that included Melanie's "Lay Down" from the Spring of 1970. The mix is included as the mp3 files individually sorted into a zip file (click on the first song title to download). The Melanie song, by the way, was her first charted hit (and it was a big one), and the chosen pic is of her from which I believe was in 1970. The songs that almost got included but couldn't because either: I couldn't get them to work themselves into the mix (such as "Ma Belle Amie" by Tee Set or "Roadhouse Blues" by The Doors) or there wasn't enough time to include them (such as Neil Diamond's "Shiloh" or Bobby Sherman's "Easy Come, Easy Go" or The Moment's "Love on a Two Way Street") or I just thought they had already been played enough (such as "American Woman" by the Guess Who or "The Long & Winding Road" & "Let It Be" by The Beatles or "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" by Simon & Garfunkel) or I couldn't get a good copy (such as "Cinnamon Girl" by The Gentrys) or I just didn't care for the group that much (Ike & Tina Turner's "I Want To Take You Higher") or for a few reasons including I used it on a previous mix (Led Zeppelin's "Living Loving Maid (She's Just A Woman)" and there were others that I had used on previous mixes (such as The Five Stairsteps' "O-o-o Child").

I'm glad I am first. I may have made differing historical selections (who am I kidding, of course I would've). However, the purpose of any mix is to hang them together (hence my phrase "it's all in the mix")and brother, this is hung. Well done, good sir!

This would make a fine companion for my Sassafras & Gum Drops Mix. Actually quite a few of these were considered but didn't make it through lack of space / time. Great minds eh?

This is great Joe, I remeber listening to most of these through a small plastic earpiece attached to my prize possession, a $3 transister radio!

I'm with jonpoi, though the Crabby Appleton & Marmalade tracks (sadly, imho) escaped these ears then...
